  • Ideas for a shovel holder for suit ARB rack?

I have just fitted an ARB style 3/4 length steel roof rack. In my preperation for a Cape york trip in July. I am after a shovel holder to attach to drivers side. I have found one which is both shovel holder and hi lift jack holder.
but I only want the shovel holder. Any ideas and where I could get one in Brisbane

    Thanks
    Graeme

Is it possible to padlock the quick fists so the shovel is secure and locked? ...possibly by drilling a small or something similar.

I am also interested in finding a shovel holder only for my roof rack.

          Hi Graeme,

apart from the Kaymar option (which I assume you've already had a look at)

Try getting the Rhino shovel holder and put a longer screw through the base of it and then either drill through the roof rack and put a nut on the other end or get some sort of clamp mount and attach the bracket to that.

Nope, but you could drill a hole in the shovel blade and use a wire cable locked to the roof rack. I don't like drilling holes in handles.

hi guys. I picked up the rhino rack shovel holder, and have fitted it to a TJM rack. They are a great little holder and have held up to 1000s km of outback corrugations and the odd beach run. D4D thats a fantastic idea to secure shovel from undesirables, will have to get on to that ASAP.

Nice one Playdoh96. Im presuming you used these things? - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Rhino-Roo...ht_2742wt_1012

Guessing you drilled a hole in the back of the "flat" part of the mount then bolted em up? Im thinking of doing it this way.. May work for you as well GraemeJ

                -- Edit --
Just bought a pair of these off eBay, will see how they go

That's what I did today, I have the full length ARB steel rack. I just drilled the holes in the flat sections and screwed the rhino holders in. Put down a rag to catch the swarf, and give a good blow with the compressor to clear the area. Also a bit of paint to protect the raw steel.
                  Regards, Heath.

Yeah that's the ones. Didn't know u could get lockable ones now. Mounting, I had to cut up some 3mm plate and fit that on the inside of rack. TJM racks have 2" hole in the uprights unlike ARB solid ones. Have mounted awning the same way with no trouble to date (touch wood!!!)

I have a set of single shovel holders - were attached to my Alloy roof rack but recently changed them out for high lift Jack/ Shovel mount. Were bolted through front and rear legs of the roof rack. If interested can email photo and $$

Those Rhino Rack Shovel Holders are pretty good; they hold the shovel securely and safely. ...got mine up this morning.

Looks good EasyCompany24!!! How do you rate the locking side of these clamps? Dose it lock the handle solid, or lets it free wheel? Just thinking of up dating to the lockable ones.
                            Thanks Kris

Thanks Playdoh96. The locking aspect of the holders are pretty good; nice and strong. Once you tighten them up and lock it, the knob itself spins freely - thus stopping the knob from gripping onto the thread and being able to undo. I presume you can still use some sort of shifting spanner to grab onto the thread itself and undo it; but what are the chances of someone walking around with a shifting spanner in their pocket. The lockable ones are quite good. I'd love to have another locking knob... just for extra security
