  • Bull bar installation 150 gxl opposite lock

I have been reading the forums and found it very interesting that alot of people had installed ARB OR TJM bars my opinion is that the arb bar looks better but thats my opinion.
I went to my local arb store in north queensland and found that they had no stock 2- 3 weeks What a the bloody hell is going on with these guys. Any way enough of that i then went to opposite lock in Townsville they had one ready to go looks the same as Arb same strength $400 cheaper too.

Here are some picks of the install as i done it myself it took four hours but if i had to do it again should only take 3hrs

    Things i had trouble with.
-I had to add 15mm to the template as i didnt want a big gap between front bumper and bar on the sides.
-Took 1/2 hr to unwrap the bar the boys at opposite lock warned me of this and it is true 1/2 hr.
-Number plate should go on first as access to tighten was limited but i found a way to achieve this.
-Had to add some more bolts to the kit no big deal though.
-i ran out of BEER while doing this now this caused a lot of problems.

Hope you enjoy these pics i just need some hella rally 4000 with hid kits installed on bar
    Cheers.

I suspect with that small gap the bar wing will rub on the pinch weld...

          Hi Dogman,

I would be interested to see any pictures you have of how the BullBar mounts to the Chassis? and if it has any extra bracing that runs down the chassis?
Certainly when I installed my TJM T13 bar (Best looking bar.....(long pause)......In the world ;-) I was impressed with the amount of bracing to the chassis, an I can see that my 150 TJM BAR does not move around anywhere near as much as my Neighbours ARB bar on the 120 Prado.

The OL Certainly looks like a good fit, you did a good job on cutting the bumper.

          Bernie.

The bar is going good i have been off road only a little so far seems very sturdy (doesn't rub or move at all Cattle grids etc) early days yet i still have the option to trim the bumper more if needed very easy to as i wont need to remove the bar. If the bar was going to move that much as D4D said will be asking OL dealer WTF . But this is something to keep an eye on thanks D4D. i will try to get some picks of the way it was mounted it looked very solid i will also check out a tjm mount system to compare the bracing but it doesn't move at all so no need to modify. The look of tjm bar is slowly growing on me as the loops for the headlights would give more protection and the entry angle looks good.
I would highly recommend the opposite lock bar for strength and quality to anyone but it is all personal preference on what they want. For me i am sick and tied of being Knocked back by local stores in Townsville telling you 2 weeks wait for stock. That is why i went for OL bar as it was in stock and now its fitted im very happy with the quality and Price.
            Thanks for the comments
            Cheers

Great going DOGMAN, you did a brilliant job and yes I have seen a few with that big gap on the side but as you said can be cut back further if required. Better then having a huge gap if not needed ?? i have seen the ARB on the 150 and hilux's for that matter, and was a fair amount of movement on the 150 but the hilux was unbelievable, Im talking well over an inch, probably close to 2 inches in gap between bar and body of vehicle. If any body gets the chance to watch the ARB flex ramp (not sure what you call it) that they take to some 4wd shows, try and get really close (safely) and have a look at the front bar when it flex's, holy shit Ive neer seen anything like it. Im not saying the bars crap or there is an issue with the hilux but I have never had a 4wd with that much movement from a bullbar and/or body flex (probably more the cab moving on the body mounts). I know my 120 shakes a tad on really rough stuff and alot better since the recall on the bar brackets. You might find you will need to cut a bit more From the flex I have seen with 150's but then most 150's I have seen has been off roading where they are climbing over things not just touring. Im now going to to have a look at the clip from spitfires (steve) 150 and see if I can notice the bar flexing or not. Sure Steve's is ARB I may be wrong ?? Great job and probably done better then the so called professionals. Just keep an eye on that corner where the black plastic trim you have added to the original bumper as you will soon see if the bar is touching or not on the nice blue paint work (love the colour by the way) I reckon some people like yourself should do this for a living, I would be lined up for you to fit my snorkel and other bits and pieces. Id rather pay some one like yourself then some of these big named companys....Cheers Steve

Hey Steve your 100% right Check this link out i dont think i will going to these extremes but will be keeping a close eye on that clearance if it starts rubbing its getting the chop as much as i don't like the excessive gap i don't want paint rubbing off.

Dogman it will be the the body moving on the chassis that will cause the rubbing, the best thing is get the front wheel up on something to give the car some flex and see if the bar and body are touching.

                  The bar looks good.
