Gramps, good to see you back into a prado! I'll keep an eye out for it around the club.

I have a bigger UHF (old style) and I have mounted in the centre console against the vertical wall right by the drink holders. Yours is a lot smaller so will fit there even better. I have an extension speaker under the dash and mic extension lead in the ash tray. Unplug the mic and no one would ever know its in there.

Also, I reckon my DIY flat roof storage platform (no sides) is about 2m long. Heaps of room. Don't go cutting yours down too short. If you're concerned about the weight, take the sides off. I would. Don't see much use for them personally.

Looks like that paint work needs some custom pin stripes... Should be able to get a share on this years GTG mate!
      Good luck with the mods...

Let me know if you need a few additional hands - sounds like the boys will be round my joint a fair bit for all their own mods...

Thanks man, it's good to be back in a 120. The smile hasn't left my face yet.

I've already cut it down and one of the welders here at work is making up a wind deflector for me. The weight was a big problem for me. I had to use a pulley to get it on an old car and it was 2.2m long. Now it's down to 1.6m and I can lift it onto the car in 5 sec. I settled on 1.6m because the tent I'm going to buy is 1.4m long, so this will give me a little extra.

Matt, I may have to take you up on that if I have a problem re-running some of the wiring. I'm going to install a fuse block in the engine bay to handle all the external accessories (electric brakes, lights, compressor & whatever else), it shouldn't be a prob but you never know.

Forgot to ask - your pic of the rear power supply didn't seem to show a negativ -ve return to battery. Are you just earthing via the chassis/body instead?

With this fuse block, each accessory has its own -ve to the chassis.

Another one to cross off the list: UHF radio. I didn't get too many photos as I was too engrossed in what I was doing.
The plan was to knock it over in an hour or two, but my 11 year old daughter wanted to help so it turned into nearly four hours. A long day, but how many times do you get when the kids just want to hang out and do something like this???

Ok, some photos of last weekends install of my GME TX3540 UHF.

The unit is hidden in footwell on the drivers side.
I installed the handpiece plug down next to the electric brake unit out of the way.
The handpiece I haven't found a permanent place for. At the moment I hang it on the sunglasses holder when I'm using it. When not in use it is disconnected and stored in the glovebox.

And with some spare time during the week I managed to knock up a single drawer.

I had some 17mm moisture proofed ply in the shed that had been hanging around for a while. The dimensions of the outer box are: 875mm long x 510mm wide x 265mm high. It's possible to fit a unit that is 1m long in the back, but since I have a cargo barrier that will go in when we travel, I made the drawer to fit with the barrier installed. The hardest part was to get the slides to run freely. The rear of both slides had to have a thin bit of laminate wedged between it and the side wall.

I toyed with the idea of re-using a T handle from a previous drawer, but I thought of using it for another project around the house. The only things left to do, is whip up a mounting bracket and carpet the unit. My last effort of carpeting didn't go too well, so I'm trying to rope in the missus to do it for me. Don't like my chances, but you never know your luck.

I'm hoping to fit the recovery points tomorrow. The worst part of this job I can see, is swinging the bottom of the radiator away to allow for the holes to be enlarged.

This build up will be quiet for a week or two now to allow for the purchase of my lift kit. There are a set of Dobinsons springs sitting in the shed (C59-302 front, C59-325 rear), which will be joined by some Bilstein shocks. There is no way I will be attempting this install myself, so I'll have to find a good installer in the North of Adelaide to do it for me.

Speak to Greg at Greg's alignment solutions at Regency. Mention Andrew with the white Prado and he'll take care of you. He's an old school wheel alignment specialist. He does work for ARB Regency and is an expert with fitting suspension. I can help with the rear but not the front without AJ's spring compressors.

It came as a complete set when I bought it.

I don't want to have too much of a go but...

I must have got the blind apprentice on a bad day: when I got the car back there was positive camber and the caster and toe were all over the shop.

I wanted to give them another chance as I'd heard so much but after seeing the 'before' readout where I usually get mine done I'm now not so sure.
