  • Installed Tin's plate some weeks back. As per the second photo from post # 368, loosen the 2 bolts facing the firewall. They are little fiddly to access but came loose without too much effort. Gently break apart; the metal gasket does not remove; once gap is enough slide the plate in; mine went in quite easily; I put the plate to right of gasket as per the photo. Then tighten nuts. All up quite quick. Certainly seems easier on the 2.8l engine. So far no error codes. Thanks to Tin, and I understand Hally for orginal testing, for another great peice for the 2.8l Prado.

Thanks to Gerry I fitted mine up as well. What I would add to Gerry's description is to use a large flat head screwdriver to gently pry open that gap on the RHS of the metal gasket and then slide the blanking plate in whilst the screwdriver is opening the gap - it goes is quite easily then.

            • Just a note:

I think these posts are discussing the fittting of a plate in a 1gd 2.8. Not sure though. No comment.

If anyone is thinking of this on their 1kd 3.0lt, great! but, I highly recommend you do not lever anything.
The egr cooler is fairly exe @$900 & they can easily be damaged. Worst case you fracture the internals & coolant gets into the intake & you destroy your engine.

You need to remove all necessary nuts & bolts do the egr cooler is free, so you can fit the plate in position.
You do need to re secure it, as it was, don't forget any bolts.

                • I done my 150 yesterday and for anyone looking to doing themselves set aside half a day, it's not a big job but very fiddly with alot of hard to get to bolts, patience is needed and double jointed wrists would be an advantage. But will say that there a real noticeable power increase, there was a good layer of crud in there and to clean everything properly took some time but worth it in my opinion. Car did throw a code when first started up but thanks to ####### got that all sorted.

                  • Yep , #### did mine on Sunday, along with an EGR clean. It seemed a breeze for him. I was glad to save a nightmare for myself.

                    I recommend ####'s work

                    • ####, my vehicle 3.0 is close to 50k km. Is it too late to use the plate or what is the way to go with that sort of mileage?
                      Thanks.

                      • Hey wanted I did mine at 108k. You just need to clean your air intake as well while everything is removed.

                          • Well what I want to know is that if I should make time and effort to drive to Mel to find #### or at that low mileage of 50k I may get away without cleaning the whole EGR thing and just get the plate in place? How can this be determined? Can the level of soot be determined by any tests or Techstream?
                            Thanks.

                              Hi,
I have seen them at 20k, 30k & 40k, they are already pretty messy.
IMO you need to get it in ASAP.
You will get away without cleaning it, but if you saw it, you likely rather clean it.
Remove the intake pipe & have a look, shine a torch in past the butterfly.

                              • Thanks ####,

I will attempt to have a look at what is involved in doing what you mentioned. More questions will follow.

So if the plate goes into a say 30% or less blockage is then worth doing it or by that stage a full clean is the way to go? Not sure if that question is set out correctly but I hope it is in the right direction! I just want to make sure that what I do is worth the effort otherwise a drive to Mel looks eminent!

                                Cheers
