To reduce valve wear, to reduce the egr & whole inlet system clogging up, to improve fuel economy/efficiency, to keep the engine oil cleaner, to save injector tips from getting caked & affecting spray patterns which could be a contributor to holes in pistons.

Save, injectors, oil changes, fuel, & maybe an engine.

A catch can will help with some of the mess only. Oil residue alone does not cause problems, every vehicle has that from blow by.

The evil part is the egr soot. Not the Pcv. The big issue is from where they come together.
A very bad design, causing a lot of problems.

Have fun whatever your choices may be.

    Whoohohohohoaaaaaa.........
Thanks for that very informative response #############.
Forgive my ignorance but I (and I suspect a few other's) would still appreciate if someone could post a photo of the motor and where this blank is fitted.

EGR is also used to reduce combustion chamber temperatures. Will blocking it cause any damage because of the extra heat that will be generated?

In a Diesel Heat is Power. By giving the engine clean air ( not mixed with pre burnt exhaust gas ) you get a bigger better burn for the fuel given thus more power. = less fuel needed to be given to achieve the power required, in turn the intake temps are reduced...

It's only able to reduce temps, it if its still putting hot exhaust gasses in, the reason for it in the first place.
At full throttle & maximum heat the egr is closed.

How is this working for you?

                What benefits have you noted?

                  INTERCOOLERS !
Isn't the idea cold air more dense better combustion. Then just before THE BIG BANG THEORY LETS OPEN THE EGR AND INTRODUCE HOT AIR TO COOK THE OIL MIST AND BLOCK UP THE WHOLE INTAKE SYSTEM.
Just had a link sent from the other mob at Fuso about putting a resistor on the MAF sensor wire and tricking the erg to stay closed.
                  Anyone heard about this.

I ended up buying a blanking plate but my fingers are about 0.5mm too short so i cant slide the plate in.. LOL

Yeah, several forums have mentioned this and so far i think the mob on NewTriton.net have this sorted by using a variable resistor. And I have copied and pasted from their thread (in the name of sharing information):

"In the simplest terms the electronic mod means that the engine ECU does not try to open the EGR valve. Therefore the pressure, or lack of it, in the intake is exactly what the computer expects. A blanking plate works downstream of the EGR valve, so the ECU opens the valve and expects a certain set of conditions in the intake but the blanking plate alters these. In the earlier days the ECU would report an error code and while this doesn't happen with the more recent updates the ECU is still struggling to deal with unexpected conditions. Result is that the engine doesn't perform as well as it might. Note that a lot of people report an improvement in fuel consumption with the electronic mod."

The information is out there, you just have to log-in into other forums to find it.

                        Exactly!
Soon as there is a resistor available get one! & tell everybody.

The results with the erg restrictir plate actually are, the engine performs better.
More cold clean air. More responsive. Better fuel economy.
Less abrasive soot & cleaner oil & cleaner intake are only long term benefits
Results vary depending on your individual egr operation. They all vary widely.

Egr gaskets if anyone needs the part number.
That's the one that goes between the head & egr cooler.

If you need a plate, with a hole in it: http://www.tnnengineering.com/
Lots of d.i.y ers have been using them & tell me good quality product great service.

So has anyone inspected their intake a few thousand km after installing a EGR blanking plate with a hole in it? Just want to see just how effective it is regardless of how it feels to drive.
