  • Dodgy Dave's Altitude with Attitude

I never made up a build up thread for my petrol 120 series, so I decided to make a point of creating one for my new 150 Series Altitude. Contained in this post is an overview of my rig buildup pages and the modifications that I have completed thus far - this post will continue to grow over time, as will the thread, feel free to check back here for a quick reference to my build up.

    PURCHASE
Bought myself a Graphite Auto D4D Prado Altitude 150 Series, with a bare minimal 14 kms on the clock, delived May of 2012. I had the dealer fit sets of both carpet and rubber mats, and a full tank of diesel.

    CONTENTS

The following is a list of the modifications I have completed to the rig, sorted by the page they are located on:

    Page 1
Mickey Thompson 4 Rib ATZs, Genuine Toyota Bonnet Protector, 2" OME Nitro Sport Suspension Lift,
BRC Diff Breathers, ARB Air Compressor (ongoing), Hayman Reese HD Towbar (monday)

Had the MT Baja 4 Rib ATZs installed at City Discount Tyres at Keswick. Very happy with the result, nice ride - had this tyre previously on the 120 Series petrol.

Headed down to M.A.T.E.S garage to get the bonnet protectors installed, not that it is a complicated job. Just a good opportunity to get stuck into some remaining bourbon cans and make use of the bright lights setup in the garage (perfect for working on prados)...

Also picked up a Redarc BCDC for use with a rear anderson and a battery charger. Alas, towbar not fitted yet, installation is pending...

Back down to M.A.T.E.S Garage again, another slab of boubon as payment soon saw big Matty on his back under the car running in all the hoses - cardboard and a rug to protect him from the cold cos he's too cheap to by a sled thingy!!!

        The 150 Altitude on blocks...

Additional parts required for install of BRC kit, purchased from Adelaide Pnematic Supplies (around the corner)...

Black BRC kit mounted on one of Matty's custom 10 minute brackets - smashing!

          Congrats on the upgrade D.D.
Nice start to the mods as well.
          Cheers
          Troy

p.s. Maybe Matty could fit some casters to those MaxTrax from SCA and use them as a garage creeper.

A few nice little step by step photos of how to remove the little plastic clips that hold in the plastic cover over the radiator. Nothing complicated, no need for a hammer to remove the pin or any exertive force to be applied...

No need to remove the pin before setting them back in either... Easy stuff...

Dual battery install for the 150 - used the ARB battery tray and factory supplied wiring loom for the connections with the SBi12 to isolate the batteries. Override switch for closing the redarc and connecting the aux & main batteries is planned, but we haven't run in the wires require (yet!)...

The most important modification so far...

Mounted an main battery supplied 100A fuse block to the lid of the toyota fuse box on the passenger side for the various accessories that Dave has planned. Although, at the time of installation - no connections were required. All future mods that we have not had a chance to complete yet...

We would have mounted it with the supplied water proof contained, but the manufature didn't supply any instructions for that and we just couldn't figure it out!!! So we removed it...

Nice work Dave - car is coming together very nicely. Now that you have hands-on experience in fitting the BRRC breather kit you can give me a hand with mine!!

David! lets not tell little white lies ok. I leave at 10PM on school days because I actually work during the day and do not have 30 accumlated "Personal health days, nor is it acceptable for me to blame not turning up on the speshul orange bus.

I don't like to talk about my personal relationships on PP and could understand if some think Matty and I have gone our separate ways. The truth is Dave's wife is paying Matt and I to help Dave assimilate with grown up people. Its the least we can do for him and his family. Matty has a little more time to devote to this heart felt cause.

Those attending the 2012 GTG should not talk about Dave's speshul needs and try to make him feel like one of the crew. I'm sure he will grow on you too, just as he has on Matt and I. Please make sure he doesn't get too close to the fire though!.
