Thank you very much amts for the time you have taken to share this method. My mate and I fitted Dobinsons GS59-221 front shocks C59-314 front springs (heavy duty) Dobinsons GS59-701 Rear shocks and C59-325 rear springs to my 04' 120

Rears were really easy. Just have to disconnect sway bar ( I hope that's what its called) if you are installing new rear springs. I found it easier anyway.

Front was not quite as easy but the instructions were followed to the t and all went really well. Have to love saving $400 dollars installation especially when I want to learn more about the Prado.

My dobinsons bullbar has not yet been powder coated so it has not been installed or the dual battery system I want to install so it's sitting up as a fair bit in the front end. Here are some specs on before and after measure from middle of wheel to wheel arch.

    FRH : 515mm (Before) #FRH: 600mm (After)
    FLH: 510mm (Before) FLH: 600mm#(After)
    RLH: 545mm (Before) RLH: 595mm#(After)
RRH: 545mm (Before) RRH: 595mm (After)
Meausured from Axle centre to wheel arch

Thanks again very much amts for the instructions.

If you were to change the spring at the same time on the front, could this method be used? As I imagine the spring would be loose as its not being supported by the top hat and where the cir-clip is and would having an assembled strut aid in the process much? Or would it just be a case of removing the factory one and swapping it over. thanks

See step 7 in the instructions. Once you remove the strut top nut and lower the LCA, the spring and strut will come apart on the vehicle and you then remove both items together.

Excellent, that's quite an effort! I would have thought the spring pressure would push the jack down at a dangerous speed etc

No, remember that the weight of the vehicle is compressing the coil in the strut assembly. Jacking up on the LCA until the jack takes the weight is the same as the tyre taking the weight of the vehicle at that corner. Then as you lower the jack slowly, the spring starts to decompress slowly.

Thanks mate, followed your instructions for the front of a Prado 150 GX and all went ok. Replaced the rear spring as well so used the lift procedure.

Following the instructions but couldn't get the new strut and spring in place. It almost fits but I couldn't get the bottom of the strut into place. Might have to compress the spring to get another 25mm in height so the strut will slip into the mounting point.

Any other ideas? I was thinking of disconnecting the UCA to give room so I could slide the spring onto the strut from the top
                Struts are Tough Dog
                Springs are Dobinson C59-352

                  Is the LCA swinging freely?

Thanks Amts the Cam bolts were too tight to allow the LCA to drop down.
                    Will fit easy now

That's good. Don't touch the UCA bolts as the entire hub will fall. Just loosen the LCA bolts only.

                              Hi Andrew
Could you please assist with the factory Torque specs for the above bolts/nuts.
Are these the "Lower arm X Suspension cross member" that you have quoted in the table at 135NM?
                              Regards
