  • 90 Series - Brush Bars and Rock Sliders

Has anyone had any experience with brush bars for a 90 from S&J Horsepower?

I am very keen for side/brush/rock bars but want to make sure I get decent ones.

At $840 they are well priced - maybe too well priced. I haven't found anyone else that makes them. Xrox do sliders for $1,170 which only suit RV's without flares (and several others make sliders in the same price e.g. Macquarie 4x4 etc) but as far as I'm aware they don't make them with integrated brush bars.

Just in case anyone's going to shed some awesome light on the matter for me... I have:
2000 3.0TD GXL with steel ARB air-bag bullbar and I'm after steel only, not alloy.

    Cheers,

    Edgy

    Hey edgy,
XROX do make sliders for the flared model Prado's outback accessories in Perth made up a set for my 90. They are very good quality and strong don't think they do brush bars thou. Or you can support a fellow PPer

One of the difficulties with brush bars, is how they connect to the bulbar, because bull bars are not the same.

I wasn't aware of anyone marketing brush bars for the 90 series, so this S&J one may be the only one. I would check with the supplier to 1) confirm the picture is 100% representative of the 90 series slider (not from another vehicle), 2) ask for some more photos; showing under the slider, and a close up of the mounts (particularly the rear passenger side), and 3) ask what bulbar it can mount to, and how - will you need custom work to connect them?

Alternatively, just source a slider, and have the brush bar done as a custom job later.

The sliders being sold on PP are strong, but in the case of the 90 series, the rear passenger side is mounted to a weak point of the vehicle (LCA mount bracket), and brush bars are not available. The LCA mount can be re-enforced however, like I have done; http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post359032

Cheers for the replies guys and as always I'm amazed by your work glen_ep - nice design and very nice welding!

As I'm very keen on brush bars... the search continues. Yup Adam, I'll be on the blower to S&J to interogate them about their units.

I understand Poerful 4x4 do a (non airbag compliant) bull bar and brush bards for the 90 series prado now

If you can get away with just sliders then what about Roo Systems @ $516 a set?

No idea what they are like but a bloody good price.

Cheers for your comments guys! However...

Powerful 4X4: they have claimed to make all sorts of accessories for 90 Series Prados for many years now, but they don't actually make them. I don't know if this has changed in the last ~6 months, but when I called up earlier this year and late last year, they told me that not all products in their catalogue are available (or every have/will be).

Roo Systems: I called them up and was told that their sliders are imported in batches. From pictures I've seen they don't look very strong. I think the quality is dubious... and not sure that they are a true rock slider. Having said this, I haven't actually seen them in person so I am happy and would quite like to be proved wrong

I think Powerful's gear is made in Thailand (or over that way)?

Going to visit Roo in the next couple of weeks and check out the sliders for my 95. Will let you know what I find.
