I called Jon from Cross Country a few days before the GTG and was informed that the intercooler and pipeing would be available as a kit for around $1580 and fitting would be around $400.

Additionally, pjorek, in the lead up to the GTG and during, I didn't notice any turbo lag due to the additional pipeing. Responses seemed to be roughly as with the stanard, or even maybe slightly better.

I might have to have a drive of a chiped D4D with standard IC for a comparison there... Although, I would have to acknowledge that chips and tunes will vary the performance of the system as well...

Finally got around to uploading the dyno sheet, which shows the standard D4D engine in red and the new figures for the intercooler addition in aqua...

Most noticeable change is the AFR, although there is an improvement to the output. I don't have a dyno sheet for the tunit chip which is presently fitted. Will have to look into getting one!

I have been thinking about this for quite some time myself. I wonder how long it will take them to bring out one for the 1KZ?

Their work looks awesome and the fitment looks really nice..

The 1kz has more space above the engine, I got the impression from Jon that with the top mounts he likes to include a thermofan to help disipate the heat from the cooler at low speeds, otherwise the cooler suffers from heat-soak! There was simply no space for such an arrangement on the 1kd.

The bonnet scopp helps, but again - only really usefull at speed, combine the scoop with a fan and you'll have a very efficient heat exchange...

Received a call from Jon, from Cross Country, yesterday to follow up on whether I'm happy with the results the FMIC has given the D4D. After a short discussion regarding the effects of the Tunit chip and the "testing" that was subsequently performed while on the GTG. It has been decided that perhaps the rig needs to go for another dyno run!!!

Hopefully find some time this friday to drop in at the shop this friday and get an updated sheet posted up not long after!!!

Matty, have you noticed any difference in fuel usage?

Ok, the results are in! I have just returned home after dropping into Cross Country 4x4. After chatting to Jon and grant for a while, Grant took me around for a dyno run with the guys that they use.

The Tunit performance chip has done its job and we trialled a few of the settings to see what worked and what didn't - to get the most out of the settings that have been programmed into it. Whn the prado went in the chip was set to 8 and we found that this showed the same curves as setting 6 (just had a richer air/fuel mixture).

So we are now back onto setting 6.

Here is a copy of the Dyno results, I'll let the figures speak for themselves!!!

                        Red - Original
                        Blue - With FMIC only
Green - FMIC with Tuneit Chip

Overall, i think that the new cooler is performing very well - still no smoke! Next on the list will be the exhaust, see if I can't remove the final restriction and get the most out of the D4D engine.

Thanks goes to the boys at Cross Country, you have done an awesome job!!!

Couldn't say which should be done first, but leaving the chip til last is probably not the best. The order I have done things seems to be working out ok. But then most boys have done everything but the cooler and are seem results too. Personnally, after seeing the results, it doesn't make any sense to be only carrying out 2 of the 3 mods!!!

Haven't had a chance to fill the tank and meassure the usage since the GTG, but I will post this info when I get it. Noted now though, the scrub bars are permanently fitted and this will affect the figures also.

@whatever....please post up your results mate. I have a Kzj120 aw well and will do the exact same mods, Taipan xp, DP Chip then Top mount intercooler with pull through fan and scoop. Have been advised by grant at CC 4x4 that they can do a front mount like Matty and Loz but i think with the room we have on top of the 1KZ plus no muddy water ingress or radiator flow impedance by a fmic i reckon the top mount looks the go for the 1KZ.

@ Matty and Loz. do you find the beast runs wamer in the hotter months due to the front mount blocking the radiator? do you find theres a bit of turbo lag with all the piping and large cooler? a very impressive install but looks like it would be right at home on a skyline or wrx than a 4x4?
Black mica 06 D4D GXL. , kitted out to take me where we need to go to feel free......
