Altitude/Kakadu Rear Entertainment System Remote

Well I have managed to get salt water on/in the remote for the rear entertainment system.
Didn't discover this until a day after it happened, pulled it apart straight away, but too late.
Green slime around the batteries & a fried chip.

Replacement cost $910 RRP.
Best price I could find was $710 trade.

These things cost maybe $10 to make.

Pretty sure it's a Panasonic system.
Will not spring $700+ for a remote control.

Anyone else been in this predicament??

Get a logitech harmony remote, fairly certain I have seen it in the preprogrammed options if not very easy to teach it what to do. Harmony One is around $120.00 on ebay delivered. Just a thought for you to try.

Can anyone tell me if you need a remote to make the rear screen work in a Kakadu? I have a demo 150 Kakadu on loan at the moment but there's no manual in the glovebox - grrr! I've figured out how to get the rear screen down but can't get it to do anything other than display the AM/DVD/Video menu. I have the disc playing on the front screen but can't get anything happening on the rear. There's no remote anywhere in the glovebox, etc; I thought it was all touch screen.

Why not try a universal remote and just program it from another real remote?? for $30-$50 for one of those universal ones it would be worth a try. Surely someone in your area or your dealership would lend you one to try it. If you live anywhere near me you're welcome to use mine to try it.

Wow. It's so expensive and I'll go broke if I bought the Altitude. Yeah, agree to try other made or even a home DVD controller. Nothing to loss.

Slightly OT but how many headphones should the Kakadu's Entertainment System come with? The PDF brochure on the Toyota site lists 3 but the 2009 Kkadu I'm buying only has 2 as far as I know (that's all I spotted in the seat pockets during my test drive).

They should come with 3 sets of headphones.

Let me tell you those headphones are worth their weight in gold!!!!! No matter if it's 5 mins to the shop or 5 hours on a trip the kids are quiet all the way. It's pure heaven.

OK, will ask about the 3rd one. The ones that were in the seat pockets had a 1 or 2 switch on them though, I assumed this meant there were only 2 (remember this is a 2009 model).

My kids have 4 legs unfortunately but I could always try playing them a Lassie movie LOL.

What year and model please? The guy who owned the Kakadu before me said it only came with 2 pairs and the 3rd box had the remote.

It's no biggie Jasen as I don't have kids and only 2 big dogs, it's more a re-sale consideration.
