  • Battery Monitoring - Prado 150

    Hey guys

I was just wondering if anyone can recommend a battery monitoring unit? Needs to be fitted inside the 150 and not under bonnet. I am not interested in the Redarc BMS at this stage. All i require is a display that can give me both readings for AMPs and Voltage of both primary and auxiliary batteries and can be easily mounted.

    Thank you

    George

If you can live with volts only, ABR make a decent unit.

Measuring amps gets expensive. The measureing devices I've seen need to be wired in series with the positive lead. I've not seen a wrap around unit yet. You'll also need to do a rewire of the main battery positive terminal to split the alternator and fuse box connections to measure actual battery draw.

Try this, pretty easy to make, costs less than $20, and you have a small, dual battery meter.

IMO, the best monitor is the one which looks the most factory. they all essentially do the same thing.

The projecta one prob gets up on that front, but I'm even not all that convinced with that.

Baintech are a good option too, while this is the 120 dash, gives you another option.

                        Decided to go with

                        1. BAINTECH Voltage & Voltage Meter Flush Mount - Mounted to the front of the vehicle for dual battery visibility
                        2. BAINTECH Voltage & Amp Meter Flush Mount - Mounted to the rear of the vehicle to display amps drawn and voltage indicator for auxillary battery

                        Cheers...

George, where are you going to mount the Baintech flushmount in the cabin?
                          Cheers

                            Hey Rob

Have a look at Matts pic in this thread. I am thinking in the same location. To the right of the HR-LR dial.

                              Hi George,
I recently purchased a Victron BMV-602S. This gauge monitors the AMPs like a fuel gauge and usually monitors your second battery. THe 602s can montor the volts from both your batteries and is relatively simple to install as they have provided a shunt with an RJ45 conector. Go to http://www.victronenergy.com/battery...nd%20bmv-602s/ to get more info. As someone mentioned above, they aren't cheap - mine was $294.
                              Good luck
