Is that one of the Korr Lighting kits?
My father in-law has a set and they are awesome. The dimmer is great for later in the evening when you just need enough light to walk around.

Yes it is the Korr platinum kit. Bit of stuff I probably won't use but plenty of opportunity for expanding. I bought their 165W solar panel and despite Bosch having a relatively poor reputation the panel performs very well.

They are great kits. I might try and find one next weekend at the Maitland Caravan show next weekend.

I will give them a call next week and see if they will do a PP discount. The 4wd show discount in Brisbane was worthwhile.

Latest update, I fitted an AMTS brand spare tyre spacer. The 275 tyre was just touching the rear door so fitting a vinyl tyre cover was difficult. I had cut the centre of the cover out so the camera would still function so it was easier to take the wheel off, fit the cover and then replace the spare. Now there is about 20mm clearance so fingers can fit behind the tyre easily. Another piece of AMTS excellence. Thanks Andrew.

I picked up my Superior brand front sway bay blocks on Friday so I spent some time yesterday fitting the blocks and the Monster bump stops. Both very simple jobs. I did struggle with the old bump stops because I expected my 24" shifter would fit. It didn't, a few mm too small. I don't have a big pair of stilsons either so after ringing around to see who had some I could borrow I gave up being good. As a proper engineer I have a full range of cold chisels and I used the biggest and knocked them off. Once they start to undo they come off easily. As Matt said in his fitting guide you need to grind the allen key to fit above the lower arm but otherwise a straight forward install.

                And the sway bar blocks

The sway bar rubbers were opened up previously and when I rattled the old bolts off the sway bar popped down (as you would expect) and a bit forward. Once the blocks were in place the bar support lined up very easily so I think this is a worthwhile mod. I took the car for a run last night and cannot notice any change in the handling, didn't measure to see if there was any change to droop. Will measure when I do the next thing on the list...

I also bought the Narva lights I am going to fit in lieu of the useless fog lights in the T3 bar.

Small problem, they don't bolt straight up as I expected them to.

I made up the inner bracket first then measured the spacing and made up the outer. Somehow with my head stuck up in the bullbar I misread the rule and made the bracket 7mm too wide. So I shelved the install and will hopefully get to the bracket making today. I will draw them up for anyone who wants to follow suit. The lights fit ok with a gap of around 7mm side for side clearance and a few mm up and down.

The Prado had its first 10k service on Friday night. Nothing untoward apart from the fact that the handbrake needed adjusting from day one. I am also certain the handbrake is backed off for shipping and then not adjusted by pre delivery because it isn't on their checklist. All three of my new Prados have been the same. I also rotated the tyres while it had its pants off because I forgot to ask for that to be done on the service. I followed the service book recommended pattern for no other reason than that is what the dealers use.

D4D I was going to get the DRLs but I think I will fit some strip DRLs under the lights instead. What I really wanted was some spread light for track work only (not for use on the road). I thought about fitting a light bar but the only real spot is the winch space and that limited the light bar to 12" (I think). So I went with the 90mm driving light in the fog holes. The fogs are totally useless. On or off is no difference in the cabin.

                    http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/assemblies-2 the 71982s

I did want to put the LED driving lights in there but the cheapest price I could get was $360 each! These cost me $80 each and I can HID them for about another $175 with a decent quality kit so about the same as one LED. The other thing is that neither Hella nor Narva give specs on the LED lights in this size so it was a big gamble that I wasn't prepared to take. I know what I will get from these.

I will aim them a little 'out' and not straight. I did the same thing for the ironman bar on the 120 and it was very useful.

Hi MJ at the fixed price services tyre rotation is part of the service (not 5 wheel rotation). Check your service report it should have it on there. I have previously marked my tyres in non obvious spots so I could tell if they were rotated and they were. It is just a 4 wheel rotation front to back on each side. Depending on the rotation you just did you may have the tyres back in the same position before the service.
                      Cheers

Jason I didn't realise it was part of the service. However nice clean rim on the back door plus the TPMS sensors were in the original places. I will ask though why they didn't maybe because I have changed the GrandThings.

Just read your post again, so just front to back? I want all 5 done anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

Looks nice MJ. Yeah I used me big Stilsons to remove the old stops. I also had my underground chisels already to go in case (the install chisel, the adjusting chisel and the removal chisel; in both large and small.. Ready to go). I like the look of the spacers for the sway bar. Can't wait for mine !

With time pretty tight before we head off camping at the end of November I worked on the solar panel support and feed this weekend. The panel is a folding 165W panel from Korr lighting. Not the cheapest available but I was happy with how it was put together though I will swap the case clips for something a bit better.

Rather than fit some cross rails into the roof rack as I have done in the past I decided to simply use a couple of pieces of 50x50x3 aluminium angle to support the panel and also bolt down to some of the rails under the mesh floor of the roof rack. I used my favourite tool and set 8 M6 rivnuts in the roofrack rails where they are easily accessible below the expanded mesh floor. Not really that bothered about where the rivnuts went just so long as they were easy to get to and strong.

                            Rivnuts in the roof rack.

Then another 8 M6 rivnuts into the solar panel frame.

#1 son (by age) who happens to be an apprentice decided to quality check the location of the rivnuts and found one about 0.5mm out of position. As the angle will have 8mm holes for the M6 screws not an issue but after I admitted not centre punching the holes I did get a lecture about centre punching. So I asked how you do that when you are centre punching an aluminium frame around a couple of big sheets of glass. Strangely #1 then had to go to a mate's place...

                            And bolted into position.

I will screw the angles onto the panel and then slide this combination up onto the roof rack and then bolt it all down. The angles can travel in the trailer or the roof rack and the panel folds in half and travels in the back of the Prado. I will give the angles a coat of paint to reduce reflection and also glue some rubber underneath. The panels have a single grey 50A Anderson plug which will sit in the middle of the roof rack on the driver's side.

Next step today was to run the in feed cable up onto the roof rails. I didn't get this finished. By the time I fought the side panel and donated some blood to the car AND had the cable out the back through the grommet it was time to watch the motoGP!. I fixed the cable to the body with silicone but for some reason it hasn't taken so I will redo this next weekend. Scrub a bit harder with the isopropl alcohol maybe or a better brand of silicone. The cable will be connected to the DC DC charger through an Anderson plug (red for solar down there) and then run up along the roof rail to another Anderson plug. Based on the cable length which is around 3.5m I bought twin core 6mm2 cable.

Plan is to mount the Anderson plug on an angle and then screw this to the factory roof rail. I will do a similar thing for the LED lightbar I am planning to fit under the roof rack though this will run from the front up under the windscreen trim and to the roof rail. Blue plug on this one. Just so no one can plug the wrong thing into the wrong thing!
