I've been waiting for this stuff to pop up somewhere after seeing the testing shots months ago.

Just wondering if these will be worth the upgrade once my current Bilsteins are at the end of their life.
    Hey,

60mm struts and shocks will be released into the Australian market soon enough for a lot of vehicles...when?... that's down to how quickly Bilstein can build them, and they are swamped!

Are they worth it? I'm guessing the pricing will be north of the off the shelf 46mm gear, how north, not sure! In technical terms these are a fantastic piece of technology, and a big step up in fade terms compared to the 46mm gear which is always a bit limited on the oil capacity side.

Honestly it will come down to price. Not sure what they will be marketed at and what valving will be in them. If you can wait then I would

This was a long project to see through to the end, and it required a lot of effort! Big thanks to Graham at Fulcrum and Sydney Shocks for getting the valving in and sorted along with a lot of technical issues that needed sorting along the way. Thanks also to Steve at King Springs for knocking together the custom 700lb/in coils on the front. My WHITEY stamp on the coils is a shameless copy of AMTS custom coils for the Grande rear!

As Michael has mentioned, the valving and coil setup is very similar to what I am using in my Ironmans, and having test driven this 150 at all the different valving stages myself, I reckon it now handles superbly!

It is also very satisfying to finally see some genuinely custom valved Bilsteins here on Pradopoint!!

Finally a big thanks to Michael for hanging in there during the dark times of yankee softness, we got there in the end, and the RZ is going down nicely!

Looking forward to the next big off road adventure for the big Bluestorm!

Would Sydney shocks revalve existing 5100/5160 shocks to the same specs? Thinking as a stepping stone between stock blistering and the ironman pros

          Hey,

Revalving Bilsteins is very expensive, so it is only something you should consider if you really want to keep whatever you are running.

It would be simpler to just buy new Billys!

So we are about to head west again for a couple of weeks. Having towed the camper now a few times over the last couple of years I decided it was finally time to fit Tin's brackets and the DC678 cooler I bought and flush and refresh the transmission fluid. Bracket and cooler fit up in 15 minutes and the rest is easy enough. Plenty of posts and pics on here.

I reckon our Prado has had a pretty easy life in the scheme of things. Never towed at the limit, towed 2t a few times, maybe 2,500km in 110,000. Regular beach trips but again nothing crazy hard, always lock the centre diff and manually pick 3rd or drop into low and 3rd or 4th. Sand driving would be several thousand km over 5 years. Camper weighs 1.5t and it has been dragged about 15,000km in the time we have owned it. Always keeping an eye on the conditions and never foot to the floor to keep speed up. No rock hopping or bouncing down tough tracks. Transmission light has never been on. I have never overloaded it either or driven crazy speeds. High mount breathers have been fitted since before its first off road excursion, anyway you get the picture.

The fluid that came out was discoloured, brown and only the faintest trace of the original red. Not burnt but it smelled like old oil. Clearly well past its best performance. Drain and flush, drain and flush with new oil. New oil in.

I didn't use Toyota oil or Penrite. Don't want to get into a debate about fluids.

The point I want to make is I think my transmission was driven pretty gently and nothing beyond the reasonable expectations of a 4wd. And still the fluid was well below par. I should have flushed it at 90,000 when I originally plannned to do so. The fluid wasn't as bad as some I have seen but still I let it go too far thinking it would be ok. So if you tow, have 120,000+ or do heavy sand or off road work flush your transmission oil.
