Outcome: will make get welded and make patch or see if i can get re-enforcement kit similar to the 120.

4WD Trips: unsure, however the owner lied about accident free, the inspector I paid missed it as well, on installation of roo-bar noticed that the plastic bumper support was broken at the rear and bumper was siliconed on drivers side, looks like crack may have been caused by accident damage, only around 5mm long, panel has small indentation heading towards engine bay, crack is located there.

I feel really sorry for those that have found cracks.......but still does not appear to be a wide spread problem. In all the members here that have150's not that many reports of cracks. As I said sorry for those who have found cracks. Put the battery in the rear of the car.......

Yes not widespread as the cars are only 3 years old... This shouldn't be happening. Toyota need to do something about it that's for sure.

Well maybe, in some cases. People by a Prado, then change the tyres, suspension, add aftermarket bullbars, side steps, scrub bars, a winch, a second battery and the list goes on. Then its completely Toyotas fault when something breaks? I am not so sure.

                    Cheers Andrew

Has there been any in standard format that have developed cracks?

It would be interesting to hear from owners who have a Std Prado & drive continually on corrugated roads as to whether they have had any issues......

                        Hi Rob,

I work up on a mine site in the pilbara, Last night I checked all of the 150's (13 in total) in the car park and none of them had cracked inner guards, all have steel ARB bullbars and appear to have standard suspension, km's are unknown. they are driven on some pretty crappy roads up here and I'm sure a lot of people do not drive them the way we would drive our cars.

Thanks for that.... That's surprising as I would have thought that the mining vehicles would have definitely had some issues....

Great thread Brains. Hopefully we can shed a little more light on where the problem lies.

So far from everyones posts it seems that the crack can occur on either inner guard, and is only occurring if you have a dual battery setup, bull bar, and suspension lift. What is really alarming is that most of these vehicles have not really done much extreme off road trips except for Rob-Macca. All the other trips could be achieved in a stock 4x4 if you really wanted to. Keep the experiences coming in.

I am wondering if Toyota was using a different grade of material in the earlier models which is the cause, or whether its just the age of the car and over time that area starts to show fatigue. Either way you don't expect that in any 3 year old vehicle, especially when you pay a $60 000 premium when new.

The only concern with putting a battery in the rear is the possibility of it leaking gas when it gets hot. Sealed or not sealed they can emit gases when being charged or when getting a little too hot. Not to mention that Toyota have designed the engine bay so that a second battery can be installed.
