Hey ####, you know one of the great things about a reccie is you learn how long it takes to get from Craig's Hut to Talbertville 10.5 hours with breaks and sightseeing as the GTG participants will. It was a great drive and we had a quick look/drove by many sights and huts along the way. It is worth noting that the tracks were dry and it will take longer in the wet or if there has been rain in the previous few days. We will have to allow it as a two day drive. Ian & Shan were impressed with where we went and are both now keen to lead a group of Prados through the same way. It will be cold on reccie 2, be prepared for heavy frost and/or snow. I may be able to get back to Talbertville, it is all in the timing of a gran-baby that is going to make an appearance sometime in the next three weeks.

Hi James, yes I figured it would be a hard slog in a day, perhaps we will see what it's like in he wet too.
I spoke to Shan today, I think another high country lover.
We will have to discuss where a possible overnight camp would be most suitable.
Yes, I know it will be freezing, literally. last may & June the puddles had 1/2 inch thick ice on top of them in places.
Got any pics of reccie no.1? We love pics.
All the best with the baby!

That's the plan, while its open, will be concentrating on the ones that close up.

It may as well be snowing, the temps are likely to be 0 or below, still at 10am.
It will be icy cold! Dress warm, take extra blankets & get warm stuff & expect to be feeling very cold when you get out of bed. It might be nice to see some snow, but the chances are less likely, but lets hope.

Hey Steve, yes mate no dust, how good is that hey, you get to walk the rivers before we cross them, lol........

Did a high country trip last week, last camp was at Mt. Cobbler Lake. We then came down to Pineapple Flat via the Staircase, it has been bulldozed so much now there are no rock shelves at all you could do most of it quite easily without the centre diff locked. don't know if it is part of your planned route but don't get too excited if it is.

I was working at Stanley all day today and it was very wet and cold. I got my temp gauge out of the car and it said only 4 degrees. Very wet cold and muddy day to be working in the bush.

Most of the tracks in from Myrtleford into the Wonnongatta are all in good shape and I have been talking to the roading manager for the North East on Monday and they have been grading a lot of tracks across the high country. Its interesting to hear from him that as you head south the tracks may get worse as Gippsland has not been able to keep up with there road maintenance this year cause of the fires.

If you want me to find out about particular tracks let me know. Ill be heading home from Myrtleford on Friday so there wont be a chance for me to come out sorry guys. But what I can say is that all this rain has made to tracks very fun and slippery. Well at least the ones I was on today were anyways.
