Front Camera Mounted in Winch Control Box

Next little mod was to install a forward facing Camera and interface it to my DigOptions head unit. I decided that the best place to mount the camera would be in the front of the Winch Control Box. Details of the install can be found HERE

    End result

and the view from the head unit

I will upgrade the CAM sometime with a better quality unit as I have found that it’s not as water resistant as it claims to be. Any rain or water crossing and it fogs up straight away and takes sometime to clear. Having said that, It has easily paid for itself a couple of times on trips where I have spotted obstacles over ramp overs etc that I would not of normally seen.

        Grande Airbag Failure

Following on from the Airbag Retaining Mod, I installed a Grande Airbag Spacer as made by amts seen HERE
This was designed to better retain the airbag, and to bring the airbag inflation level back closer to its original setting. The packing out of the sensors was still required, but because the airbag was raised with the spacer, less air was required to increase the level of the rear of the vehicle therefore putting less stress on the Airbag.
All was working well for a couple of months until I noticed following some “outings”, that my airbags were deflating overnight. After some investigation a leak was found in one of the Airbags and on the drivers side the Airbag mount had started to collapse. This was experienced also by a couple of other Members and a thread had been started HERE .
The mount was knocked back into place after looking like this

        The Airbag leak was found

And temporarily repaired with Rescue Tape until I decided what to do (replace with OEM or Airbag Man?)

It was found that the spacer was not allowing the airbag to “pivot or rock” when the rear diff flexed stressing the airbag mount and causing it to collapse. The Airbag Spacers have been removed and made the decision easier to replace the Airbags with the Taller Airbag Man units as per HERE
To date I haven’t reinforced the Mount and there has been no further evidence of it collapsing

              AJ120's Rock Sliders

Ordered and installed AJ120's Rock Slider Side Steps as for Sale HERE
Another awesome piece of kit made by a PradoPoint member. Thanks Andrew!

              As delivered

              Unwrapped...

And installed. Everything fitted up without any issues as you would expect when it's a product made by Andrew!

Replacing the OEM side steps with Andrews sliders gained me 2" of clearance at the sides. These steps also protrude out a little further which protects not only the sills, but the side panels(doors) also.

                Airtech Snorkel

Next up... TJM Airtech Snorkel. I have been waiting for this accessory for Soooo Long due to a lot of resistance from SWMBO. The only people I trusted to install the Snorkel was the team at TJM Brendale and yes, they're as good as everyone has said!!!

Then SWMBO said "Ohhhh, you can hardly notice it hey?" (could've f*&ken strangled her!!!)

                  ARB Rear Locker

I thought I would spread the love, so my next purchase was from Westside4x4.

                  Rear ARB Air Locker....

Prior to having the Rear Locker installed, I purchased through amts a Contura V Laser Etched Rocker switch as per HERE
This switch replaces the original IPF mouse switch that currently sat on the dash panel to the left of the steering column (below the 2nd Start Button). I wanted the new Contura Driving light switch on the main switch pane and took the opportunity to rearrange my switches as I had never been happy with the location of my ARB Carling Compressor switch mainly due to the fact that I occasionally knocked my knee on the switch when jumping in the seat. I decided that I would turn the panel upside down so that the Mirror control was at the bottom and have the four switches available on the top row.

                  How it was originally

I needed to get the file out, as the Mirror switch hole requires reshaping due to one edge of the switch being a different shape, along with the Top left hand corner of the switch Panel hole requiring some work also (gotta get me a Dremel...)

Everything fitted in nice 'n' snug again and I'm much happier with the end result. I now have the toggle switches up out of the way from the right knee and room to the right of my Compressor switch for the future Front Locker switch.

Pretty happy with the install as I already had the compressor installed, so that made it easy. Just needed to re-route the air line by a more preferable route (just me being fussy, that's all) Now to get out on the tracks and make use of it.

                    BlackWolf Tent

Picked up a Blackwolf Turbo Lite 300 Plus tent from Great Escape Camping. It’s bigger than I wanted but I needed to accommodate the Wife and Daughter on the rare occasion that they decide to come camping with young Ronan & I. First test was to Janowen Hills with some of the SEQ Crew. First night was cold and wet so it was a perfect road test. The main tent takes only a couple of minutes to whack up. The Fly takes a little longer due to all the pegs required. Packing down is a bit of an Art to ensure it fits back in the Bag. The Cape Trip will hopefully only require me to put up the main tent meaning setup and pack downs will be nice ‘n’ swift.

                    All setup.

The Tent weighs 24kg and the bag is 1.4m long so my present Wire Mesh Basket will not accommodate the tent, so I ordered a Pioneer SXB Platform (44102B) as seen HERE
It’s currently sitting in its box against the wall in the garage waiting to be installed. Hope to fit it up in the next few days. The beauty of this platform is that it’s only approx 15mm taller than my Sports Bars so it can stay on the Prado as it will fit under the garage door.

                      Drifta Drawers

Can’t wait for my Drifta Drawers to be built up. Very impressed with what Luke and Beechy have done for the Pradopoint 150 guys and some of the 120's also. One of the key things for me is the ability to remove it all at a moment’s notice, taking no more that 10-15min to remove and put the 3rd row seats back in, as it's not unusual for SWMBO to tell me as I'm about to head out the door for work that she needs the 3rd row back in for an after school sports run or the like!!!
So here's what I'm looking at.

D2D-WT - 2 Drawer system with the slide out table. The table will be fitted on the right hand (drivers) side

On the Left hand side I have ordered the Drifta Slide System (DSS) which is nicely integrated into the top of the drawer system. I am choosing this option as opposed to the DS50 Platinum Drop slide for a number of reasons. 1) Price. Nearly half the price of the DSS. 2) Weight - can't recall the actual figures, but the DS50 Platinum Drop slide is bloody heavy (30-40 kgs?) 3) Space - The DS50 Platinum Drop Slide takes up a fair bit of real estate in the rear (roughly 600mm wide x 900mm deep) compared to the Drifta offering 4) I have the ARB 60l fridge which due to it's larger footprint, is not as high as a lot of the other brands, so it will be easier to reach in to get a beer. If the wife starts to complain that she cant reach in to get stuff out of the bottom of the fridge, then I'll pack a copy of the yellow pages in the back for her to stand on!

And to allow me to store stuff up against the fridge and to stop the gear from falling into the drawer when I slide it out, I am going for a Fridge divider also...
Shown here on the driver’s side. Mine will be on the passenger (left) side.

After reading LFAR's trip report down that way, I'm hoping to do a Road trip to Drifta at Gloucester to get it all fitted up. I will try and schedule the trip down for a Friday, leaving sparrows fart, getting it all fitted up on the day and hopefully see some of what Barrington Tops has to offer on the Saturday. Then head home on the Sunday. (well that’s the plan anyway...)

Great writeup craig, and very nice rig you have too.
We have a black wolf 240 plus tent and now pack it up with the fly on, which saves heaps of time on set up, but is a little tricky getting back in the bag.
