  • Toyota Stealership Servicing

I think I just grabbed my ankles putting the 150 GX in to Toyota Dealer for the first service (of my ownership).

    $415 for 90k service
    $120 for power steering flush
    $680 for wheel bearing
$550 for 4x pads and 4x rotor skim

<mod edit> - i new I'd be up for some costs but jesus - think I will shop around for servicing in future. Any WA members recommend a good workshop SOR?

    Robsons in Welshpool.
Saved $400 om 80k service and for $500 they were going to fit new pads and new discs. Was told by toyota needed brakes skimed and pads but when Robsons went to do it they told me I still had 50% front and 80% rear so again toyota were going to rip me off. They reckon its only $50 more each corner to replace discs than skim.

And they leave Chuppa Chops on the console.

Ive been using Toyota in Nedlands (off Stirling hwy) for my Prado and my dads as the SOR dealerships are difficult. Great service to-date. Our other cars go to RAC in bently off th Albany HWY, very helpful and have gone the extra mile to get it right the first time.

90k isn't a major service for the diesels, no? How many kms have you done that the pads needed changing and the rotors needed skimming?

I am sure it was just a fluid / filter change plus air con filter. I personally have only done 5k in it.

I looked at one of that fixed price site and there were cheaper places but not by a huge amount - I thought I would take it to Toyota for the first service and see how I went as the dealerships normally bill the leasing company direct - City Subaru were fantastic for the WRX and beat all of the "specialist" workshops for servicing by the time you took away the fleet discount.

I will ring around a few places tomorrow and find out estimated costs for a pad change / skim and wheel bearing cos that is ridiculous. If I end up paying those prices I will not be going back.

Plus they had to keep the car overnight cos they didnt have the wheel bearing in stock....

I have been using city toyota northbridge for years - been very good to me. Last service was done by TLC O'Connor only because of convenience (close to work)-were a bit cheaper than city. Can recommend either for you
I'm using TLC from now on

Watch the 80,000 service. T recommend checking valve tolerances which they need to remove and refit the rocker cover and some other items. When I asked how much the service would be they said $900. When I queried why so much, they said that they never have had 1 D4D fail the test or need adjustment. It is just a check. They asked if the engine was noisy or started rough, when I said no, they said this check was optional and would save about $300. I decided to let them service my older GXL without the valve check. The cost ended up being $524.

Not doing the check won't void any warranty later will it if a problem arises?

I asked what is the problem that is likely to occur if it is not checked. They said engine noise first then rough starts. Then they would need to check them and adjust. The adjust is not included in the $300. They said they have checked them for years in most cars and even up to 240,000km and not once found the valves need adjusting. I see it as unnecessary considering the engine is quiet, starts and purs like a kitten. They had no problem not doing it and said it was completely up to me. We have 175,000km and 6 year warrantees as long as vehicle is serviced with our dealer of purchase. They tell us if we are going to affect that, but they didn't mind either way. Actually he said he wouldn't do it unless symptoms were there. I don't believe private mechanics bother checking either.

Had my 70,000K service today (actual Ks just over 51,000) under the dealer's extended warranty pricing and it was $269.00. That includes a $36 charge for a brake safety test which I didn't ask for and no report was supplied with my invoice like it should have been. I didn't pick it up or I would have asked where it was.

I'm also annoyed that they have not rotated the tyres despite that being an item on the list and despite being specifically requested to do so. When Mr Fido dropped it off they asked if he wanted the tyres rotated and balanced and he said yes. There's no mention on the invoice of it having been done and I know it hasn't as I marked the tyres this morning, all are still on their original corners.

Not even an engine bay wash, still have all my Lederberg/Wombat mud spray in the engine bay. To be fair I don't know if that's normally an extra and I didn't ask them to do it but would have been nice given they wash the car.

On a positive note, I finally got my tailshaft replaced!

I changed my pads last week following this thread:
                        http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...includes-pics)
Have only recently purchased the car and didn't know the wear % of the brakes and thought would just change them anyway.
The Toyota pads had between 50-60% remaining but were just really soft and crap.
Put Bendix 4wd pads in and the difference is out of this world. Car now stops on a 5c piece instead of having to put your foot through the floor.
Plus get a syringe and remove all the brake fluid in the reservoir and replace.
                        Was too easy.
                        Cheers
