Good tip, perhaps laying the container on it's back can prevent that so long as the cap seal holds.

That will work, the bungs are reusable from the looks of things.

I bought this tap on sale for $7.50, supposed to be better quality then the $3 twist type (which always end up jamming and needing pliers to open them after a while, speaking from past experience).

        Note it's from BCF :-)

        • Personally I would not trust a tap on a jerry when the jerry is in the car. We always leave the bungs in and lift and tilt the jerry to get the water out. However we only use 10 litre jerries.

          • Well we ended up tipping water out (used it to douse the campfire) before we packed the container back in the car and we still had about 8 of those 600ml bottles of water from a 24 bottle slab left. So for us two the 25L container was more than enough as we used river water for washing dishes and ourselves and to flush the Porta Potti.

Also we ended up running our stove all week off the 9kg bottle and it's still half full. We did a little bit of cooking on the butane stove as well but didn't even empty 1 full can. We couldn't use the LPG lantern as the pole we bought from Ray's had a blocked valve at the stove connection, the lantern and the pole both went back for a refund.

I'm curious though as I was told today by a guy at Anaconda that you shouldn't run an LPG stove off a 9KG bottle as it pumps out gas at a higher pressure than the 4KG type. Now I'm thinking that's a croc but happy to be enlightened.

            • All gas cylinders, regardless of size run at the same (high) pressure - driven by the liquid vapourising. The confusion comes with the downstream equipment. Portable stuff, lamps, stoves etc are usually high pressure devices and run straight off the cylinder, which can be anything from a small can to a 9kg bottle. BBQ's, some wok burners etc and all gear inside a caravan are low pressure devices and have a regulator (eg. the round metal thing on the end of the BBQ hose) which lowers the pressure.

              Hope that helps

              • Thanks Cityslicker for the explanation. We have a Primus 2 Burner Deluxe LPG Stove (https://www.snowys.com.au/Camp-Kitch...&sc=51&id=3561). I thought it was a low pressure unit as it just has a straight hose, it does have 8600BTU burners though. We didn't have any issues with it at the GTG except when Mr Fido decided to turn the gas up too high when lighting it (think he got a bit of a haircut on his hand but nothing requiring First Aid).

We tried our old Companion round BBQ off the smaller 4KG cylinder today (straight hose) and it was flaming like it was getting too much air but the burner was very old and had surface rust so we have turfed that one anyway for safety reasons.
