A few of us have already mentioned that we're interested. Patience grasshopper and I'm sure we'll be able to organise a convoy.
From the sound of last years travellers, getting to the GTG was half the fun.

You just never know there might just be a convoy from Tassie and before anyone says it, no it will not be a convoy of just one.

We are keen, but may be over committed with other plans already in place. Would be a great opportunity if we can make it happen, and a great learning experience before the 2015 Tassie gtg. Will know more in a couple of Months time...

I have a question about minimum vehicle requirements: Somewhere else in this 2014 GTG sub-topic you mention a fair amount of river crossings in the vicinity of the camp ground. Are we crossing any of these, and what's the go re snorkels etc? Are they just not deep enough to make a snorkel a MVR?
                  Diesel Prado with various things...

                    Hi,
You are absolutely correct, that's exactly why they are not finalised.
To answer you question: well if we knew what the weather was going to be would help.
Most of the time, you should be able to cross these rivers without a snorkel.
Yesterday I was speaking to a PP, Toyota expert, with heaps of 4x4 experience, he stated that with a 2 inch lift you should not be in water more than 700mm in a Prado.
Now there are many variables to this. So there is no absolute.
If it buckets rain for 48 hrs, even with a snorkel we likely shouldn't be crossing in places.
This has to be judged at the time. Personally I think, once you think you need a snorkel for it, well you really have to think about if you can cross safely.
I don't think we are excluding vehicles without snorkels. However you may not be able to cross some crossings if the rain comes.

It will most likely be added to the vehicle requirements as highly reccomended.
Pretty much the same for any 4x4 trip, you don't know what you might come across & it's that extra price of mind to help prevent water ingress. Most likely, if you don't have a snorkel you would have to bring a bra/tarp just I case.

Please keep an eye on the minimum requirements for the absolute answer.

I hope that was some help :-)

Like Anthony said we just don't know what the weather will be like .
                      A little teaser

One of the Crooked River crossings

Just don't know how these rivers and others would be like with some decent rain

                        A question for the inter-staters.

what are the names of iconic 4x4 tracks you hear about?

I see they called it old Jamieson hut, but I think it's upper Jameison hut, I have been across there.
I can confirm as you can see there are some BIG rocks in that crossing.
Like many of the high country river crossings.

Theres why I say don't worry about depth & snorkels too much.
That was not super deep, but deep enuff to float away with current - well nearly - snorkel or not lol.......
The river crossings around Talbotville are generally smooth & maintained.

Blkd4d, crossed that section of the lower dargo river ( last pic ) at headlight level. One of our 4wd's with no snorkle ended up drying his air filter buy the fire that night.... good times..... Pity he did the same thing crossing the Macalister the following day lol, made for some great photos.
As we all know with Victorian weather ( 4 seasons in one day ) this event should be fun for all.
