2014 gtg RECCIE RUN no.3 - November - cup weekend or week?

Not to hijack, but I'll be up that way too with a group of 4-5 cars. You really notice just how busy it gets up that way long weekends now.

Hi Gents,

I'm really keen to catch up with some other Prado's!! I will be down there at the same time with a 4WD club. I don't know the area well so take a look at where i'll be, below, and if our trips cross paths (even if our camps are close) i'd like to meet up for a cuppa or could even continue on with you guys depending on the end location. Happy with the Black Diamond stuff.

Coming down from Sydney with my dad on the Friday then off to SA Kangaroo Island on the Tuesday and will swap my dad for the wife and bub.

The tracks we are taking are,

Friday night camp near Licola Nth.
Saturday head up Black Soil Gully, cross the Mccallister river several times, up Butcher country, down the Caledonia track onto the Caledonia river for camp.
Sunday, climb up Dingo. Visit some huts and a walk to Bryces Gorge. Down Zeka spur track into Wannangatta for camp.
Monday travel down the Wannangatta valley then climb up Billy Goat. Then head towards Talbotville and explore.
Tuesday come out near Dargo

Sounds good,
Some good tracks there, black soil gully is real fun in the wet, steep & clay rutted up depending if its been graded.
The maccalister is fun too, watch out for the big rocks.
Last I heard dingo was real mud boggy but it was very wet then.
We won't be in those areas, although we probably should do a run out tat way soon too.
We might see you anywhere from the zeka onwards.
Sounds lie you have a great weekend panned.
Keep an eye out for a bunch of prados.

Good stuff guys, we'll make some more plans when the rest of the crew are back and recovered from Simpson trip.

Heads up, not that it same dates, But Targa High country is on up there around Eildon/Mansfield/Buller couple days after Melb cup and the weekend after. Lots of road closures to be wary of.

Thanks for the heads up Piggy, appreciate it. I also believe 4x4 Earth will be staying at Talbotville that weekend too, so the hills will be alive again!

Earth gathering is about 2 weeks later, often they have 60-80 ppl for that gathering, no point trying to fit them all in even there on a long weekend like cup. Talbotville is big, but gets tight to fit a big group in at cup.

Your absolutely correct!!!!!!!!!
You see seasonal track closures, June to November.
But I plan to make up for it, I will be living in the high country in the lead up.
There will be plenty of chips n chops out of my Tyres by April

Ok, it seems there are a few that only have 2 or 3 days.
So what do we think about making it a Talbotville reccie?
Make it easier for the hard workers.
Str8 to T then home from there.

I've asked for Friday and Monday off but still no go.
So I think Talboville reccie is a good idea.
Worse case I could come Friday evening and leave Sunday arvo.

Ok I will be working Friday night till some time Sat morning so when i have some sleep i should be picking Mark up or if he takes his car and we will come Straight up to Talbotville .
I should get away at 8 maybe ( sleeps overrated ) I will Leave Sunday afternoon, the race that stops the nation doesn't stop me from working .

Get Mark to drive and then you can get some sleep while he drives. Hang on I have seen how he drives........ staying awake is the better option.

Yes that is right it is Melbourne Cup, not Victorian Cup, Evan schools are open away from Melbourne and it is a normal working week.
