  • GTG HIGH COUNTRY - DAY OFF or 2 days off or no days off?

    Hi guys,

Just looking for everyone's opinions on this.
Currently the committee mainly took into account, family's that have travelled from interstate, some up to 3 days just to get to Mansfield,
Throughout the 8 days, allowed for up to 2 rest & relax days.

So basically would you rather drive every day all day? Because they will be long drives, full days mostly.

Or prefer 1 or 2 or more days off?

2 rest days - people can still organise their own things, but don't feel compelled to do so.

Yeah that's what I think, I'm a pretty keen driver & can't sit still too long, but there's going to be HEAPS of driving.

I reckon two days put aside with the option of 1: Rest day or
        2: Tougher tracks day.

That would probably cover most people's preferences.

        Cheers, Ben.

It may be called a lay day for now, but we are still fine tuning it to be the best we can do for you guys.
          Appreciate the feedback.

At the SA GTG, we drove everyday. It was a lot of driving, and days were generally busy, but it was a blast. Having said this, some people organised their own 'lay' days. Some went to wineries etc instead of sticking with the group. Others took it easy at camp. In the end, people were free to do what they wanted but we provided an option every day. By all means, schedule a 'lay day', but it would be great to have a VIC member to show us around if we want to drive, otherwise, we will follow MLC. Definitely a late start maybe, so I can laze in bed while SWMBO prepares my bacon and eggs. Hang on, I think I've got that the wrong way around

A lay day if that is what it is called at this stage might be good so some washing can be done as there are no amenities at the second camp area and with kids being kids I am sure there will be plenty of dirty clothes that will need some cleaning and drying.

Or even a later start to allow a few jobs to be done then a drive/explore.

Just my thoughts as of tonight and are subject to change if and when I feel like it.

What...? Do you mean you'll follow SWMBO while you make bacon & eggs for MLC as he sleeps in your bed?

Maybe a couple of later starts/shorter trips on a couple of days for people who want to be driving every day?
                    Cheers, Brad

Lay days but with organised activities... competition to give away prizes, another 'how to' session like the ones AJ has done for us the last couple of years...
A late or early drive with social gathering either side of it??
I'm the tourer in my family... my attending GTG's is always conditional that there will some 'lazing around' days as part of the trip.
                      Cheers, Leon

I vote for driving every day, but have some shorter days that people can opt out off.

None of the drives are compulsory. It's all opt in/out. I think it's good to have 1-2 days that are not specified for anything. This does two things, it builds in a rest day (for kids and bigger kids to just chew the fat & play around the campsite) plus it gives everyone a day to do anything they may want, or not want, to do. It also provides an option day in the itinerary for members of the group to do something of their own volition. For example, a night drive or to go back to an area or just to shoot off on their own without feeling that they're missing out on anything.

                              good feedback,

                              NTP we think alike!

I think there will be plenty vics to take tourists on a drive, also any day offs will have other activities, ;like presentations of prizes. not just stting round all day.
I was actually thinking because we might be out of good tracks close by after the 4 runs we have planned, perhaps a night drive even if it is some of the same tracks as what have been already done, then you can experience the difference. Like 20 river crossings in the dark, a 2hr loop back to camp includes that.

                              Its all flexible.
