  • Dan,
It was pretty late on Saturday night when they got into it and I must confess I didn't pay much attention to the details. He did state that the whole of the mini cd needed to be downloaded onto the c:/ of my computer. The instructions I got only stated to download the techstream file on its own so that is what I did initially. My computer wouldn't recognise the MVCI driver either from the C:/ download or the mini disc. He did load up Windows.rar on my computer remotely, not sure if that gives you any clue as to what he actually did? I do have an instructional video that was on the disc, if you pm me your email address I will try to email it through to you. It may have the info your are looking for.

    • Probably a good time to remind everyone about giving access to your PC to an unknown or 3rd party...

Only takes someone to drop a keylogging or remote access program onto your computer whilst your not looking and presto. Your bank is their bank.... etc.

Personally I wouldn't be allowing anyone remote access unless your 100% sure they are trustworthy etc.

So when you get one of those "Microsoft calling" spam calls. You know what to do.

      • Piggy,
The old notebook he got access to is not used for anything else, hadn't even been turned on for two years previous to this weekend and not now connected to the internet or used for storing any sensitive information on. It's purely used for the techstream monitoring now that it is loaded and operational.

        • All good, I got it working today I think. I followed a forum thread on it and get the wifes old 64bit win 7 shit box working.. It was halfway through doing to auto select vehicle when the battery died so I'll do it again tomorrow which will be good for the cold start and checking the injectors. Anyone care to point me in the direction of how to do that?

          • Open up techstream and plug MVCI cable into OBD2 port just above and slightly to the right of the accelerator pedal. Turn ignition key to acc, but don't start the engine. Select connect to vehicle in techstream and once connected select vehicle build date from drop down menu. Once vehicle is recognised select data scan, engine. You should see a page full of information with rpm at 0 and coolant temp at ambient temp. I did a screen shot at this stage. Start engine and let it idle for 60 secs, take second screen shot. These are the cold readings. Take Prado for a 10 min run until engine at normal operating temp. Techstream should be showing coolant temp steady at approx 83C, engine rpm steady at approx 700rpm. Take third screen shot - these are the hot readings. Compare cold and hot readings with info available on site (+2.5 to -2.5 acceptable range?) If you haven't already done it plan to drop the engine oil and check the oil pump pick up screen. I will be doing mine today and using a bore scope to photograph screen condition. Good luck with the results.

            • I bought an eBay Techstream about 2 years ago from Mogoal - one of the recommended ones. I've only just got around to trying to use it and now I find the supplied CD won't work.

Is there any easy way to get the software for it? When I plugged it in my Win XP laptop (an old one) found the FTDI drivers for it.

                • Just got a new laptop. Old MVCI driver won't install. If anyone has a the x64 version, any chance of uploading it?

                  Thanks

                  • New to Techstream - Advice Needed

                    Guys,
                    New to Techstream and would like some help with the following;
                    My vechicle is;
                    2014 Prado GXL
                    V6
                    5 speed auto
                    Plate 02-14 Build 01-14

I can connect to Techstream OK by entering the information as shown in 01.jpg.
Can you advise if the settings I have used would be correct.

Once I entered this information I can go to the ECU screens. What I am trying to do is
turn off the annoying ding ding noise when the drivers side door is open and the ignition button is
in accessory mode but I cannot seem to find the setting anywhere.

                    Thanks
                    Rick

                    • Sorry, you cant turn off the open door chime from Techstream. Instead you can easily remove the gauge cluster and stick a little self tapping screw into the piezo buzzer on the back of the cluster. Takes on 10 minutes to do.

                      • Thanks mate, yeah I thought that might have been the case, looks like I will go with the screw trick.

                          • Hi,
I am looking at purchasing the Techstream program to put on a old spare laptop running Windows 10 which will only be used for the sole purpose of checking my injectors on my 2013 Facelift GXL D4D.
After reading through this Thread and looking on EBay I am confused and have a few questions that you may be able to clarify?
                            1. It seems people are happy with purchasing from the Obdfamily on Ebay. However, they advertise that they have the latest version at present being v10.30.029 (talks about Firmware updated to V2.0.4 with K-Line protocol) yet its seems there may in fact be a much later version being '12.00.127' as listed above?(post 222)
                            2. If I purchase from the Obdfamily then I would have to 'cut and paste' their program to get it to work?
                            3. If I download the version 12 from the 'link' in that site then I don't have to do any alterations-just install as above? Will it work for Windows 10 as it only mentions Windows 7- If Ok then I assume I only need to purchase a 16 pin cable? But from who ? -as it seems there may be different quality cables around?

I am Ok with computers, but altering programs etc. would be out of my skill set, although my Son In Law would be able to follow/understand the given instructions to assist with this.
Considering the above what is the easiest and safest way on my computer to just read my injector values?
Am I on the right track or have I misinterpreted all of this? Or have you found it just less stress to get Toyota to provide this at a service? - or though I prefer to be in control of this on a much more regular basis.
thanks in advance for your thoughts
                            David.

                            • Hi David.
I think the issue is more around the compatibility of the cable/the cable driver/the operating system and techstream version used. In my opinion, forget Ebay and buy the hardware direct from the site you download the program from.

I have no problems with windows 10 with this setup. Only 5 easy steps.
                              1) Buy this cable, this cable can do the key programming.
                              http://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/vx...sae-j2534.html
                              2) Install the cable driver for the cable from the disk that comes with it.
                              3) Download and install the latest program version. (Newer version than the other link)
                              http://blog.obdii365.com/2017/05/09/...free-download/
                              4) Replace the installed mainmenu.exe file in the folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Toyota Diagnostics\Techstream\bin) with the one that comes with the downloaded zip file.
                              5) Work out how to use the program.

Is this what you have done, or is it what you would do if you wanted to run Techstream?
