We arrived there Friday (it was the last week of Vic holidays). Not a soul in site, and I was being nosy so had a quick feel of the camp fire pits. There had been someone there a day or two earlier in one spot, but everything was cold and wet.

In the grampians, there were the popular sites that were busy, but also a lot of bush camps once we started looking around. We pulled into on on the Friday beforehand, and had the place to ourselves. I also noticed that the campsites along the 4wd tracks were far less busy than the others (to be expected).
Never safe sticking your hand into a fire pit. Try pushing your hand into a dung patch. If that's warm they shat within the last few hours. Much safer to avoid burns.

If you sniff your hand you can usually tell the beer they drink and what they ate. Alternatively you could read the labels on the cans, but takes the guess work out of such a unique bush skill......

MLC - did they let you out of the crazy house again today? You lucky boy

I should note that there were real bad storms earlier in the same week that we got there. We were camped on the edge of Pt Phillip Bay at Werribee Sth C.P. and it was blowing 147kph! It's the worst wind the camper has been through but it held up. I should note that it was one of those sleepless nights though (and not for a good reason )! As a result of the winds (I understand they were bad in SA too?) there's was plenty of this that needed to be done, which involved unhitching the trailer, multi-point turns to get in a towing position, removal of tree, another turn to reposition and get the camper back on. The largest of trees (in the below pic) was within 5km of the end of the track that got us back to the highway. I wasn't prepared to turn around and re-do the 40kms we'd done to get to this point. Some axing and towing had us on the road again within @ 20 minutes.

Is this a case of 'a track less used'? One where you were navigating instead of Jo? Lol

Of course Gramps! There's no fun in taking the track that everyone else does. It might save you a few U turns though! I can state that we did not contend with feral goats, fences etc on this trip. Just water and trees

Dodgy - one night in the Grampians where everything was cold and wet I was struggling with the fire. That's when I was wishing Rodeo Paul was there!

In all likelihood my trip over will based on how grape harvest is travelling, I think one way or another I will be tied up with that, so it might even be as late as the Monday night that I leave. I wont know until probably the week before what my plans are going to be. Coming home I can probably make a few plans around.

                Cheers Andrew

We won't be leaving until the Monday night as Jo will be at work. We'll go straight from there to bordertown monday night, then do the other 8 hours on the Tuesday. Way back is a different story, as it's school holidays. What does everyone want to do? An extra week?

Well work has thrown a very nasty curve-ball and I am now a 50/50 as to whether I'll be there. I am still planning on attending and doing all the normal prep etc, but we have a big project commencing the week before and unless I have things organised and running smoothly I will not be able to go. But, all that aside, I'm hoping things work out.

At present, the plan is for me to collect Jo from work on Monday afternoon, and as Trev said, do the @300kms to Bordertown where you can just pull in at anytime and pay on the way out the next day, which we did on our last trip. Then, on Tuesday we'll do the @600km to Mansfield caravan park.

In terms of coming home, I probably won't have the whole following week off, but am happy to meander back over a couple of days. As long as I'm home on the Monday.

Happy to skype or meet up for a schnitty or something when others are keen.

                            Ian.

I was planning on getting away super early tues morning and doing it all in one day but re considering now if there's going to be a bit of a convoy happening.
On the other hand I'll probably still be working on the drawers Monday night at this rate...

                              Cheers Ben.

I plan on heading out of little old Adelaide on Saturday morning. Haven't planned a route yet but it'll be slow and steady with plenty of scenery that doesn't include bitumen.

I'm free any night except Wednesday for a catch up.
