  • 120 Dash repair

    Hey all,

Im aware there are many threads on the 120 series dash problems, however I was unable to find anyone on here who has used a dash repair company to fix up the cracks? Has anyone gone down this path? If so what are the results like? Pictures is possible?
Im considering getting someone out to do mine, but dont know who to get/if results are worth the $$.

    thanks

I wouldn't waste your money. Once it starts they will keep appearing. So you get a few cracks repaired this week then you will have more the next. Unless your just patching up to sell otherwise replacement is the only way to go personally is my opinion. It seems to be luck of the draw with these dashes and which ones crack and which don't. Mine is Mickey Mouse and no sign of it (maybe been garaged an dash mat has helped) but there are others on here with later models with the same protection and they have cracks ?? .... Cheers Steve

Mine has just started to crack. Is it a case of buying new one from Toyota?

Yeah Beach, personally if it was mine and it was cracking I wouldn't waste my time with any other repair. Id just bite the bullet order a new dash pad and either get Toyota to fit it or I may be game and give it a go myself. Seems to be around the $1500 to $2000 for a full R & R including pad.....Cheers Steve

          Just for perspective: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...t=cracked+dash
This fig seems to be the very highest. The final sum seemed to vary a lot from state to state, dealer to dealer and the general state/vehicle service history of the vehicle. I paid substantially less than this for mine so I'd advise to ring around and get quotes?? I cannot knock my brand new dash. Best of luck with it all.

            Steve,
That is what I was thinking, repair it one day, have it cracking somewhere else! Mines an 04 model, and yeah cracks above the speedo, and around both vents. Ill have to call around a few toyota dealers, luckily theres a few around my area to price some. Previous owner was an older fella and reckons he always had the dash mat on (garage, etc), I believe him, the whole car from exterior to interior is excellent; then theres the dash. Bad luck with this one Id say.
            Thanks for your thoughts

^ A lot of the 'older vehicles' appeared to have suffered from it....right up to 2008 I believe so I would not unduly worry, it's nowt you've done. (apart from the money side, yet to be determined??). Mine was fastidiously kept and garaged ..like yours everywhere else was excellent..Tojo know all about it!! So far Steve M has been lucky..without tempting fate..

I know other non P.P members whose older dashes are cracked, so the true scale on this forum will never be truly revealed....good luck.
