    DIY cruise control prado 120
OME is the way to go.
Pictures on original reply thread - adding cruise control

Just completed the conversion yesterday. I based it on the toyotanation tocuma forum but have had to modify along the way. It is that easy it hurts. I'll post the photos I've taken. First you need to order the stalk/switch about $50 eBay.

Remove the two panels either side of steering wheel and undo the hex bolts to remove the airbag assembly (I didn't unplug or disconnect it but be gentle)

The switch is a universal fit for Toyota vehicles but the plug can be different.

I was able to remove the electric contact pins (using a pin and screw driver) and place them in my original plug.

Steering column wires mirror steering wheel plug and provide a guide as to colour - red goes to blue/black (positive)

Connect it up and the cruise light comes on the dash.

I have a manual so I need a clutch switch which I have ordered. It will attach and replace this bolt
    http://www.pradopoint.com/attachment...9&d=1385525774

To see if it was working I found the clutch switch plug high in the dash and bridge the plug with wire. What do you know it works.

    Tacoma plug as arrived. http://www.pradopoint.com/attachment...2&d=1385526159

    Other part numbers required
45186-0C020-B0 Steering wheel cover (order based on your steering wheel cover color B1 is grey B0 is black)
88280-14030 Clutch switch (only needed if you have a manual transmission)
84633-04020 Cruise control wire (this is what connects the stalk to the steering wheel spinal)
90080-15079 1/2" 10/32 screws (you could save some money and get these at a hardware store)..

I've ordered those through toyota online parts through the USA
    http://www.pradopoint.com/attachment...1&d=1385636828

Cost $99 but they are going to refund the cost of the switch wire $26

This is the clutch switch plug

    and wire bridge
    http://www.pradopoint.com/attachment...3&d=1385590810

I made up till the switch arrives
    http://www.pradopoint.com/attachment...4&d=1385590901

    and the finished result.
    http://www.pradopoint.com/attachment...5&d=1385591003

Really you don't need to purchase the switch wire which would save you $26 if you can put the pins from the new wire in the original plug as I did.

No need to add the brake switch, the original one already tells the ECU to cancel the cruise. Until the clutch switch arrives just don't change gears or the old girl revs her head off!

    Total cost $140

    Hope this helps

This was a reply to another thread (adding cruise control) but thought it might help any other frustrated GX owners without cruise.

        Hi Wal01,

Thanks for the info, this is now on the list for the gx. Who did you buy the extra bits from?

Would another option be to get the cruise switch from a wreckers and plug it in?

Toyotapartsonline for the pieces with part numbers.
              http://toyotaonlineparts.com/

The switch was just eBay but is an original item for Thailand.
Wreckers would work too but why get a used one at that price I reckon

4 months on still no issues with the job. Very happy and less chance of a fine in this over policed (cash camered) state.

                        Thanks for this.

I am tempted for my 12: it is a Diesel VX TDI 2007 (1KZ-TE engine).

Any advice and parts folks? ... I found this on ebay as a full package (not cheap):
                        http://www.ebay.com/itm/261436650870...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

And this for Diesel D4-D (not TDI):
                        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GENUINE-V...17891e5&_uhb=1

Any recommendations / advice specific for 1KZ-TE?

                        Thanks

I use amayama to order my parts. Found them to be cheaper and Toyota original. Downside is you just need to wait a few weeks for shipping. For diagrams use http://www.neoriginal.ru/cat/toyota/model_euro (view in Google Chrome so it translates from Russian to English on the fly).

I'd like to bump up this old thread by thanking wal01 for writing this info. I have just completed the install on my 08 gx. It really is an easy job, for the added parts required I don't know why Toyota didn't make it a standard inclusion.

The plug I got was for a hilux so needed to do a pin swap as Wal did. There were a few extra wires in my plug, for stereo steering wheel controls. But after matching wire colours on the other side of the clock spring (as per wals instructions) I found the red wire goes into the bottom row, second pin from the right (as viewed from back of plug) and black wire goes to bottom row 3rd pin from right. I already had a black wire for stereo controls in the blacks spot, so I stripped insulation off and soldered the cc's black onto it and both cruise and stereo controls are fully functional.
