    False Floor

As mentioned in my previous post, I've been working on a false floor for next to my draw.
This is easily removable and has 4 tie down points added.
It raises the rear floor to match with the height of the folded down seats.

The build was relatively simple, a 70x35 mm timber frame with a 12 mm ply top. Wrapped with some spare carpet i had lying around.
I just have to neaten up the edges and it'll be perfect!!

No probs, just take the shackle out when driving on road and check it regularly when you're out on the tracks. Floor looks good!

Will do! and Thanks. My carpentry is a bit rough, but its amazing what some carpet can do!
Also managed to whip up a rudimentary awning for myself:
1 x Broom Handle with notches at each end
1 x 5x8 tarp with loops, not eyes
              2 x collapsable poles
              Various rope and Cable ties.

Attach broom handle to roof rail with cable ties, hook tarp on at each end (tie off in the middle), use the poles to stand it all up and there you go. Plus, it means I have a tarp available too!!

All the new stuff just needs to be tested now!

We made our own floor too and we're not chippies by any stretch of the imagination. It's satisfying when you can do some mods yourself plus it saves a few $$ for other goodies LOL.

Being at work, I was lacking an iThingy cable.
I have tracked one down, so this photo is the "concept development" image, taken at home just after I threw the idea together.

Depending on its success this weekend, I'll upload some better photos of the awning in use next week.

Well done! I had thought about just tying a tarp to the roof rails but the broom handle gives you a straighter edge and more length. I haven't even unrolled my awning (mounted the day before we left for the GTG), reminds me I need to do it to make sure it has dried out. Bloody Melbourne rain, can't even re-pack the shed today!

Cheers!! I tried the tarp to the rails and, yeah, not enough length...a quick forage found me a disused handle, a bit of trimming and fixing and there we go!

Yeah, its somewhat dry up here in the North East. Not for much longer though. Hoping the weather stays away for the weekend.

So, I may or may not have forgotten to update everyone on how my makeshift awning went.
It took probably 10 minutes to set up, which is almost comparable to the Tigerz11 awning others were using.
Being 6' 2, it would be handy if it were a little higher. Due to its free-ness, I cant really complain.
I will, if I remember, upload a photo of it in action tonight!

                          Switch Update

So as per my thread: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ro-Tech-Switch
I have changed up my Driving light switch, making it a little more factory looking.

UPDATE 25/5/14: It is now even more tidy with the help of a little heat shrink - and for the record a $16 hair dryer made it shrink quite respectably

                            UHF Antenna Replacement

The glue and tape fix on my Axis fibreglass antenna has failed again, so i have taken the plunge (all be it a relatively shallow one) and ordered a New antenna, well, 2, sort of...
I have ordered a Uniden AT870 with a free 3db whip from autoelecau in Bairnsdale. (http://www.autoelec.com.au/autoelec/)

Will be attempting to do all the install myself, given my new found knowledge of how to pull the interior apart...

                              New UHF Antenna Install

This morning I was up nice and early to install my new UHF antenna. I was a little nervous about this as its something Ive never done before. But thanks to Fido666 who pointed me to Brains Build Thread I was confident I could pull the interior apart safely: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ghlight=brains

I started by getting the centre console trim completely detached so I could find the existing antenna co-ax.

I followed this back toward the firewall penetration, removing the trim on the right hand side of the passenger foot well:

I pulled the cable out of all the trim so that I could be easily fed through the firewall. I attached a string to the end so that i could pull the new cable back through.

The moment of no return came when I pulled the cable back through the firewall and into the engine bay. I tied up my string and removed the existing antenna (the reverse of my original UHF posts).

I installed the new antenna on my bullbar and re-installed the split conduit to keep the co-ax safe.
I re-ran the co-ax to the firewall as per my previous posts, and cable tied them up all neat like.

Next came the re-penetration of the firewall. I attached my string to the new co-ax and guided it to the penetration. Upon pulling on the string, it promptly unattached itself from the co-ax and left me a little worried. I had no idea how I'd get it through the firewall now.

I ended up just pushing the cable through and fought around under the glove box until I laid my hands on the cable.

I re ran the cable the way it was for my old antenna and connected it up to the radio. I closed up all the trim, and then...I was done!!

                              DIY level 37 achieved!

(NOTE: it took me 1.5 hours to remove the old and install the new)
