I don't have a wiring diagram for this, but how does the ECU know the car is running? Oil pressure switch? If it is something as simple as that then i would be disconnecting it. If the computer doesn't know it is running then lights wont come on???

Something like this? looks like several circuits detect the ignition switch state (On or Off) and sends it to the main body ECU.
      The ECU knows everything...

regardless it ADR rule or not. sometime you just want the turn the dam lights off.
I don't mind light stay on while driving, but does it really need to be on whole time.
when I'm parked at servo or shopping centre facing toward the people or shops with headlight on during day/night I feel bad. Kinda force me to shut whole car down or put on parker light. Which then dulls whole dash during the day.
If I leave as normal, I look like douche bag who deliberately left headlight on to burn those people's eyeballs.
I'm looking at option to fit aftermarket headlight (vx and kakadu) with relay to turn headlight off and only turns on if there is power given to dash backlight.

On my wife's car, if I start the car and don't release the handbrake, the DRLs stay off. Very handy when we go to the drive-in. Does the 150 have this?

Found some information for you guys on another forum in relation to the Techstream software. A member (jms87) posted a PDF of of the "dealer customizable options" and in there is mention of "Automatic light control system". I can confirm his pdf as I just purchased a 150 and checked my manual. Here is the PDF:

I bet that is to do with how the auto lights activate. Not the permanent on headlights. Not the same thing.

I'm used to them now.... I'm more annoyed driving at night, and the console is all dark because I forgot to turn on my headlights... That's the silly bit with them being on all the time.

You could always buy these as Kakadu copies....... Not sure if the ECU would still have your headlights on or not, and not sure if the LEDs would just be side lights, and not true DRLs... But much cooler looking with headlights if they are on all the time I had something similar on my Lancer, and they were just side lights....

It is called pulse width modulation with a semi conductor switch that is hard on or off. Hard on = a vey small voltage drop accross the device which = very little power dissapation. That is why switch mode power supplies are so efficient.

Try putting them in the "parkers" position - first click. This turns off the headlights but it also turns on the dash lighting and dims the touchscreen, so not ideal. But if your concern is shining the headlights into people's eyes it might help.

Have just taken delivery of a GXL and at first thought there was something wrong as the headlights were on when the switch clearly said "Off"!

Reading the manual confirms what has been written that with the light switch Off, the headlights come ON as DRLs (I assume tail lights are off...will check).

I don't think any PWM is going on to reduce power consumption as the according to the schematic posted earlier, the lights are powered through a standard relay...I can't imagine the ECU pulsing the relay at some high frequency. I might do some testing though.

Dig around in settings on the radio. There is one where you can turn the display up or down. If you turn it up the display is quite readable during the day if you switch to parkers. This means you can leave your light switch at parkers which then come on when you start the car rather than the the headlights coming on.

                                Update:
                                Home button [top rhs]
                                Settings wheel
                                Display
                                Adjust contrast/ brightness
                                General
Brightness - set with headlights turned on. I found that 2nd from right was about the same as it is with the auto on headlights feature.
