    These MAY help.

The schematic for the Tail lights looks to be the most promising. About 1/3 the way from the left hand side of the drawing is a line coloured pink running to a relay marked "PANEL relay". Finding and removing the relay or the power to the relay coil might work.

Wow, or when you're fishing and want the car running to power the stereo and a fridge without the lights.

      Thanks anyway Josh.

dual battery system will solve that for you and won't flatten your starter battery and no need to have the ignition engaged

Tray, Battery and Isolator is $500 and run direct from the battery. Battery box is probably about the same

Found the panel relay and panel fuse, tried both, had no effect, didn't kill the lights at all ???

                Thanks anyway.

You can get the headlights to turn off and just have the single parking light globe on by turning the switch to the parking light position but this also dims the dash lights and the LCD screen making it hard to read. It would have made more sense just using the parking light as a daytime running light or putting LED daytime lights on all models

Hmmm, read the stuff at Toyota Tech, say the ECM sends a signal along a bus line to ECU that the engine is running. The ECU then switches the lights on. Don't think I will be ale to interrupt that. It's just annoying now !!!

Is it really a problem? Considering its an ADR requirement I'd put this one in the "don't touch" category!
2014 Toyota Prado 150 D4D Auto (facelift); ARB Deluxe Bullbar; OME 2" Lift; Rhino Pioneer Platform Rack; Redarc BCDC 1225 with Optima Yellow Top; BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2; Lightforce Genuine Custom 70w HID; GME UHF; Safari Snorkel; Rigid Industry SR-Q2 side lights (yet to be installed); Domin8or winch (yet to be installed)

Couldn't find anywhere that said DRL was now a requirement. ADR 76 allows DRL and was done in 2006 but it just outlines the rules for DRL.
The problem with the GXL is they are low beam headlights plus tail lights, so less life out of your globes and reflectors, over 100w of power being used causing increased fuel consumption are a few issues. When manufacturers go to the trouble to reduce alternator output to save fuel this seems to go against that theory. Like I said I wouldn't mind if they were just 5w LED

Hmmm the law is as clear as mud here.

A few months ago I saw that it was written in ADR 13 that DRLs are mandatory but now I see that they have gone back and stated 'mandatory' should read 'optional'. Also Im not sure on this but most likely if a vehicle is fitted with them, they must be working.

Anyway, back to your problem, you could perhaps put a switch between the signal wire that tells the control unit that the vehicle is running.

Or you could try removing the 10A TAIL fuse that appears to run park and tail lights or a more permanent set up would be put a switch in line to the circuit such as the LG output wires or the relay trigger wire from pin 14 of the Main Body ECU. You would have to remember to turn the switch back on when you turn the the headlights to either park or low.

                          Ken

Anything that involves disabling relays etc is pointless as the headlights will never work. And installing switches etc is more of a pain than just driving around with your headlights on. Just going to accept the fact that's the way it is unless toyota has some way of changing things

For those of you with the new daytime running lights, Do you also have the green 'tail-light' icon always on the dash? I vaguely thought that it wasn't on when I first picked up the car but it is now always on. It might be that I just didn't notice it at first but I have no way of knowing for sure.

                              Anyone?

Not sure I'd call it a tail light, it's a headlight I think. Same light that comes on when the headlights are on and yes mine has always been on with the lights in the off position. Had my 1 month inspection at toyota and had a little trouble trying to get them to understand how these things work, but they eventually came back and said it cant be changed. I'd really like toyota or the dealer to explain why it says in the manual that the headlights come on at reduced intensity when they look the same to me. Might put a current meter on there for the conclusive answer.
