OK, I'll stick my head up. I think it's a poor design. A couple of times my wife has driven at night with the headlight switch in the OFF position. The only real difference is that the instrumentation stays at the much brighter "daytime" level but I feel that this causes a subtle distraction and reduction to ones "night vision". A most undesirable effect at night. It's an easy mistake to make with this design. Rest assured Symo she doesn't drive around with her blinkers on and high beam blazing during the day.
And I roll my eyes every time time I have to look at the stupid "Tail Light Indicator" indicator light which remains ON in this vehicle whenever it is in operation, regardless of switch, lever or pedal position. I think of it as Toyota's way of reminding me what a cheap bastard I am for getting the GXL instead of a more expensive model with LED DRLs.
