      BB I do believe that the NT is trialing the open limits again. From what I have heard the death toll went up after they introduced the 130 km/h speed limit.

        It did, but hard to link this directly to speed limits. 130kph max on highways was introduced in 2007. The road toll has fluctuated since. It is important to note that the 'open' speed limits were in place for many years before this with no significant incidents per se. The majority of deaths are caused by fatigue, alcohol, no seat belts or involve (often intoxicated) pedestrians - often lying or sleeping on a road!

        Road toll in 2011 was 45 and 49 in 2012.

        Also interesting to note:

        Year road injury trend data summary (2004-2013)
        Over the last 10 years (2004-2013) 478 people have died on Territory roads and4885* people were seriously injured (treated and taken to hospital).
        On average, over the last 10 years:
        • - 48 people died each year (almost one person per week); and
        • - 489 people were seriously injured each year, requiring hospitalisation.

        • Of the 478 road fatalities on NT roads:
          • - 332 (69%) were occupants of vehicles
          • - 100 (21%) were pedestrians
          • - 39 (8%) were motorcyclists
          • - 7 (1%) were cyclists; and
          • - 333 (70%) were male and 145 (30%) were female;
          • - 234 (49%) were indigenous
          • - 402 (84%) were Territory residents and 76 (16%) were from interstate or overseas;
          • - 145 (30%) under the age of 25 years; and
          • - 344 (72%) occurred in rural areas and 134 (28%) in urban areas.

        • Casual and compounding factors sourced from the Department of Transport
          Vehicle Accident Database state:

          (Note: each fatality could have more than one factor)
          • - 44% were alcohol related**;
          • - 44% of the drivers and passengers killed were not wearing a seatbelt;
          • - 24% were known to be speed related (Note: vehicle speed influences all crashes);
          • - 4% were known to be fatigue related (Note: this factor is difficult to conclude.)

        • In addition of the 423 fatal crashes:
          • - 286 (68%) were either single vehicle run off road or overturned;
          • - 98 (23%) were hit pedestrian crashes;
          • - Drivers under the age of 25 are over represented in our crash statistics with 25% of
            fatal crashes involving Drivers under 25.
          • - Males are also over represented. (Males represent around 50% percent ofpopulation but 78% of fatalities)

          • NOTE: * This number is yet to be finalised as the statistical compilation of seriously injured data for 2013 is still being finalised. ** This number is underestimated as Alcohol involvement is yet to be confirmed by Police for the 2013 crashes.

            Even my 2008 120 D4D does more than 120km/h (downhill with the wind behind it). Allegedly.

            Agree totally - saying speed was involved is bending the truth to suit an agenda. Speed is involved in every traffic accident! If everyone stood still there would be no traffic!

            Yes increases in speed increase the risk of a crash due to shorter reaction times etc. but the less disparity in speed between road users the less the chance of an accident, so more accidents where its fast and slow traffic together, than fast and fast. Also mass differences eg car vs car or truck vs car or car and person are a factor and a heap of other thngs

            I strongly believe the drivers , road state and other factors are more to blame. This idea that its going to start killing more people annoys me. Basically @ above 100km/h pedestrians stand no chance, and car occupants, little chance of surviving.

            UK and Germany have higher speed limits but less road deaths - Australia 7.6 deaths/100,000 people. UK 5.0/100,000, Germany 6.0/100,000. Australia 1.1 Deaths per 10,000 vehicles, UK 0.9/10,000. Germany 0.9/10,000. (http://www.monash.edu.au/miri/resear...rs/fatals.html)

              After SOL and I had our dinner date he drove me to a quiet little spot. It was not far from a community and he noted that one needed to be careful of those taking a nap on the blacktop. Admittedly there was a nice view of the beach.

                No problem if you were driving it on a race track or a closed private circuit.

                    I can't definitively say the v6 prado is capable of this but the tradesman trailer that is permanently attached to it found itself doing 160 once.

                        Hi.

                        I have a problem like that. My 2007 Turbo Diesel Prado can't get over 100 Km/h. This is something that it is happening since two months ago. Before that it was ok. When the Prado get 100 km/h the gas pedal is in the bottom and I can see some smoke behind me. When I try to stop the Prado suddenly I feel an engine vibration and the engine stop working.

                        I went to a diesel specialist mechanic and they clean the fuel inection pump and check the turbo also, but the situation is the same, I can't get over 100 km/h.

                        I hope adding additional information (to Cleko case) somebody can suggest an idea of where we focus for getting a solution.

                        Thanks.

                          V6 Petrol 120s are speed limited to 180 in oz by Toyota. Oddly I have never come across a speed limited D4D.

                            Be interesting to see what top speed of D4d is. Anyone tried foot to floor with healthy engine? Anyone tried with new 2.8?

                              I have heard that the 2.8 will sit on 140 in 6th gear at around 2,00rpm so I'd imaging it might easily get up into 160+ territory if one had the inclination to try.

                                This is correct. 1st time I was wondering why it just hit a wall. (Closed track obviously).
