It's a pity that those who wanted a harder option for trailers couldn't be accommodated! Surely as this is a casual get together, people can do what they want and rejoin the group as they please. As I mentioned before, I would like to do the hard stuff but I would also like to check out Bright, so I haven't decided on which option yet! I'm not about to take my bat and ball and go home though!

        Hey Brad,

        I'd say route 2.
Your not missing much compared route 4.
It mOre depends which route you choose on Wednesday.
We will be able to discuss the options in detail on Tuesday.

Don't think it's all day on bitumen or anything like it, driving time once you are out of the bush on black might be 0ne hour. Option 2 is a good drive.

Anybody who really wants a harder option at the end of the week, if you have not been satasfied, come n see me once you are packed up & I will tell you where to go! Lol........ Seriously a harder route.

        It's all good!

The problem with a trailer route is that there are none that are safe in the wet between Mansfield and Talbotville that stay off bitumen. Option 2 has some very nice driving on tracks, it has some scenery, some rough areas like over the buldozed staircase and some river crossings of the upper King River. Once on the blacktop it will be forty minutes or so to Bright and twenty five more to Harrietville and then we are back into the mountains. If when we get to the turnoff to Abbeyard and two or more of you would like to go over the top, nobody is going to stop you MLC would love some company.

Will those taking option 2 have time to stock up on supplies in Bright or do we have to do that in Mansfield?
            Cheers, Brad

              Wonnangatta

Without giving too much away, one of the day trips out of Talbotville will be in and out of Wonnangatta Valley so those taking the trailer trip from Mansfield will still have the chance to see this iconic location and those who do the non-trailer overnighter will get another look but with some different tracks.

You will have half an hour or so free time in Bright to top up with fuel, top up at Woolworths or stretch your legs at the park on the riverbank while I top up with fuel and pick up my trailer.

There is also a large IGA in the main street of Bright and a BP for those of us wanting BP diesel a little out of town (straight through on the same road Woolworths is in). Parking outside either supermarket will be a challenge for those of us towing.

Is it a Woolworths petrol station in Bright? If it is I can use a fuel voucher there.

1- Take the Scenic Mansfield-Whitfield Rd and cruise past three cellar door wineries on your way to Bright for a top up of food and fuel. This is for wino's, those towing vans and on-road trailers and PPers that do not want to get dirty before they need to.

2- Take King Basin Rd (Rd by name only), Speculation Rd, Cobbler Lake Track and Cobbler Rd to the Buffalo Valley and then on to Bright. Mainly good off-road tracks and bush roads with some sections a bit rough. several water crossings and huts on the way. OK for off-road trailers.

4- Take the two day back country option via Lovick's Hut, King Billy Track and Wonnangatta Valley. Very scenic, no trailers, no resupply before Talbotville and air-bag suspension at own risk.

                            Hi All,

You may want to correct your list for option 2 (7 PradoGKL08 try PradoGXL08) I know its late at night

I am happy with Option 2.

I might even be tail end Charlie, to make things easy.
