    • Prado 120 Grande, 2004 - Similar to Spike69 - Had Got a 2.5m awning which was never going to mount nicely on roof bars mounted to the rails so today I removed the rails (making the little tool as per youtube video to help prevent breaking the tabs) and put on an alloy 2.2m Roof Top tent rack (in case i get one) from aussie autocrats and accessories in Camberfield, Melbourne) on eBay (great value rack, got for $569) and they were really easy to deal with and very helpful. The warehouse was full of stock, the same rack fits on many cars via different mounting brackets.

After the rack was on I mounted the the Kings 2.5m awning to that.

It took ALOT longer than I anticipated because the rack has so many bolts and they were really fiddly and unreachable with any form of ratchet or elec screw driver.

Anyway all on and looking good, not tested awning yet, but rack is Solid! Can wait to get away camping now.

Strong rack - can even support he car upside down - WTF is up with this picture loading?

Sounds expected when parked in the sun to be honest

                Thanks Amts

Picked up the roof top tent I won on eBay last night, looks good, especially for price, will test this weekend most likely.

                    • Well, what started out as a simple alternator change out has become a bit of a drama. My voltage started fluctuating during the Tassie GTG so I bought a new 130 amp unit in Hobart and carried it around in case the original unit finally died. Anyway, today I undo the first bolt on the bottom of the alternator and discover the lower bracket is broken into two pieces. Get at the top bolt only to find it has bent and chewed out the hole and thread in the upper bracket. End up having to remove air filter box, and the four bolts retaining the aircon compressor to the bracket. Then remove the two pulleys and finally the four bolts retaining the bracket. Now to fix the thread. Off to Mr Toyota and order new bolt and new lower bracket. The good news is that the bolt is available and only a couple of bucks. The bracket is $25 and also available - in 10 to 14 days from Japan. I had thought of welding it but it would probably only last a short while.
