  • Plastic Skirt In Front Tire Well.

I have been quoted by Toyota $150 each side for the small pieces of plastic skirt, that sit inside the front tire wells on my 2003 Grande. They are held in by a few plugs against the body & car frame. I assume they are to limit the water and dirt entering the engine area. Mine are starting to tear and fall apart due to age.

Anybody had to fork out this ridiculous price for a few pieces of flexible plastic? They dont even come with new plugs to hold them in. I guess the obvious thing to do just find some vinyl or similar plastic and cut them to fit. The skirt doesn't touch the engine, but I assume it needs to be resistant to heat and the elements.

Toyota never ceases to amaze me with its exorbitant prices for genuine parts.

You could also try 3mm insertion rubber and some new plugs from Supercheap.

And that would be 1/10th the price of what I paid.. (I just got lazy... )

I don't even have the plastic guards in mine. You can see the engine and exhaust from the wheel well.

I did exactly that. Took a template from my neighbour's Prado then off to Clark Rubber. Cut out new ones and fitted with cable ties. Works a treat for around $20 both sides.

But then I can't easily get to my engine bay from the wheel well. I like seeing my extractors from the front wheel

Recently made a set of these for mine,
Went to bunnings and got an off cut of black Lino flooring was $1.50.
Lucky I still had all the plugs on mine.

Thanks craigm, That sounds a bit better. You wouldn't have the part numbers would you?

                          Thanks Mate,

I notice you only have 3 covers though. 2 x #5388635020, 1 x #5373635150 I'm going to need 4. The longer back ones take 5 clips each, smaller front ones 4ea.

My only query is, from what I can see the covers might differ in pattern a bit on each side, The originals are stamped with FR & FL.?(front right, front left) I thought there would be a left side set and a right side set with different part numbers.

So glad I found this thread today. My 120 has 150000 on it and the plastic guard liners are just about shot. Mind you, liquid nails is working wonders in holding them in place where there are cracks or where the plugs have disappeared. We're about to head down the Gibb, so I'll get an order in to Amayama when I get back to Brisbane. Thanks for the part numbers craigm.
