This is really starting to sound even better.
What standard of Prado will be required.
I am basically stock at the moment.
Been reading this thread with very much interest.
Convoy sounds good to tag along with anyone coming from north of Sydney.
After doing a reccie on the weekend on one of the harder tracks we will be doing, I believe that a standard Prado will get through with a bit of track packing to help with clearance issues.

Recovery points and A/T tyres will be the big ticket items. The minimum vehicle requirements is all but sorted so will be posted up soon.

As has been said before we are really aiming this GTG as a family friendly event with all tracks to be enjoyed by all.

        Awsome news about the ferry.
So if the GTG starts on the 26th september, what dates are people booking the ferry for and is there going to be a convoy?
Would be cool to meet on the mainland and all get on the same ferry trip.
        Any thoughts?

Ok, so when do we get to put our name down on the list of attendees?
No point booking the ferry until we're confirmed for the GTG!
          Can't we just keep travelling?

That is coming sooner than you think!

If you are 100% committed on coming down, better to book the boat now. The money saved will go to the registration!

I can attest to that, I have very worn out crappy Faulkens. Just need to get recovery gear!

Skip the recovery gear... Just get some lockers

But in all seriousness, recovery points will make for nice safe recoveries. I have and as does cfryback the road safe points and they are nice and solid !!

I've booked the ferry for 24/9, returning on 13/10 to give us another 10 days in the apple isle after the GTG. We figured that we may as well see the place as much as possible given the effort to get there and that we probably will only ever do it once. Feel free to tag along after the GTG.

I've got a feeling that if you've booked the boat, you will get a place on the GTG...

I'm looking to spend a week on road before the gtg with the family so I'm looking to head over Friday 18th sep and come back Monday 5th October. I imagine there'll be a lot of us adding a bit of extra tassie time to the trip so we could be all over the shop for times. Happy to join a convoy though if anybody else's times come near mine.

Palmer120 and VKPrado are up north, and Jennings and I are South.

I can't recall off hand when the school holidays are - but would be more than happy to be a tour guide! Even if it is "brochure" stuff, day trips and BBQ!

Had fully intended on going to the GTG but then something else came up, an extended family trip to the USA, Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii (10 of us going). Will be sorry to miss the GTG as we thoroughly enjoyed the last one but will get there with the Prado one day, we are only next door LOL. The overseas trip was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity we couldn't pass up for the price.

Hey guys, I was just about to book the ferry and we remembered how bad the missus gets with sea travel.

Im thinking of flying her from Melbourne to Hobart and driving from the ferry to pick her up.

A few questions for the Tassie locals, how long in real time is the drive from Devanport to Hobart?

Where is the first day of the GTG being held? ie how much back tracking would I do if I was to drive from Devanport - Hobart - GTG???

Cheers and Im hoping to get some good advice on this.

I'd be looking at flying anyone from Melbourne to Launceston, it's only an hour from the Devonport ferry terminal and the GTG will be starting in the Launceston area. Hobart airport would be around 3 1/2 hours from Devonport and then you would need to come back up to Launceston (around 2.5 hour drive).
