            What happens with gas bottles?
If your gas bottle is fixed to your vehicle (fixed via a bracket or compartment) they are permitted to travel in your vehicle as long as they are turned OFF.
All loose gas bottles, such as butane cylinder canisters or gas bottles used for camping stoves, must be declared with security upon check-in. These items must be turned OFF and will be available to collect upon arrival when you arrive at the opposite port you departed from.
            Cheers

So do brackets on the side of a trailer count. Technically it's not in the vehicle

Does having brackets on a Tvan (Ring Bracket and strap to hold down) count as being kept on the Trailer?

Who in their right mind would carry a loose Gas Cylinder anyway?

I will try and answer this to the best of my experiences I have had on the boat.

If the gas cylinder is attached to the trailer/van in the normal position which it is intended then all is good and it can stay there once you have proven it is turned off. As for cylinders being transported on the roof then it is my understanding these need to be declared and will be taken off you for the trip on the boat and you can collect them once you get off the boat the next morning.

Butane cylinders must be declared and these will be transported in a trailer for your collection as you get off the boat. Have them ready to be collected as you declare them as it is no fun opening up a camper trailer on the wharf in Melbourne with the rain falling (long story and happy to talk about it once you are all here).

The big thing is that all gas cylinders must be turned OFF as there has been times when things go wrong in the night because someone kepted the gas fridge running while on the boat.

Hope this helps with the question.

                          • Hi All,

                            So this is my understanding:

Gas Bottles can be carried on Camper, But must be Turned Off and not connected to anthing (Can't anyway)- No Problems there

Must show Date Stamp to Prove AS Standard and in date Stamp - Little Trickey to do!

Butane Bottles for Portable Camp Stoves - Must be Handed over and then collected on the otherside. - Question: Even New pack of 4 (unopened???)

Do they conduct searches of vehicles or just ask questions?

Whats to stop me from hiding 2 bottles deep in the vehicle, as they are only small?

I'm not saying I will, but getting a better understanding, thats all.

^^^Why is this tricky? All gas cylinders show these things. They must in order for you to get them filled.^^^

                              • Hi All,

It is the way the Previous owner had setup the Spare tyre area, when he had a 180W (2x90W Panels) on a Custom frame.
It is awkward to get to to remove bottles and then re-install them, which also makes it a little trickey to view the bottles Markings.

In short the current setup was never designed for people to view the bottle Markings, without taking them off.

I use a portable stove these days, and use the bottles for weight on the front of the Camper, particularly when the 2x 20L Jerry's aren't fitted.
Otherwise, the camper isn't balanced correctly and the drawbar weight is light on, as it will be missing approx 50kgs.
