Hi all, my name is Clinton, I have been a keen wheeler all my life, my dad actually used to be a 4WD instructor in the north of QLD, I moved here in the mid 90s and never went back, the coast is sooooo much more nicer in the west than the east
So after a few GQ RB25 patrols and a 4.5 GU and a 4.8 GU I decided the petrol bills were getting out of hand, did a tour of the south including Kal, Esperance, Albany, Walpole and then up to Pemberton then back to perth with a total fuel bill of around 2500 bucks .....
Enter the Prado ..... I am actually a H/D mechanic and being in tech services I got to tour around in hire cars int he pilabra, I had a brand new 120 GX 6 speed manual when I was in Tom Price and absolutley loved it, the fuel economy was great and with the apprentice driving saw speeds up around the $1.60 often, so for a diesel I was impressed. So last year I was talking to my best mate that happens to be the Manager of Kalaumunda Toyota and mentioned to him that I was keen on a 120 prado (I like the flares and the look fo them) he mentioned that they get good resale value but he could do a one owner trade on a 150 GXL, but he said it was manual, I would prefer the manual so for me I was keen, he detailed it and sold it to me for a steal even the insurance company said that if I went for purchase value it was under the market value so I paid a bit more and went the market value on it
Here is a picture of it outside the dealership after my test drive to see how it would go fitting in my garage (with future mods planned for a lift and a roof rack.
And here it is in for the test fit in the garage plenty of room for growth
I had planned a trip to Kalbarri with the prado and I also had purchased off a mate a killer off road camper, with the now expanding little family I have I figured I couldn't live out of a swag for ever (actually got sick of the missus telling me there were bugs crawling on her when there clearly wasnt!) So I fitted the windows with 35 grade tint on the two front windows and 20 grade tint on the back to keep it legal, also a good mate hooked me up with an awesome deal for a Tracklander roof rack as well, so we fitted that before the trip.
It stayed this way for a bit until pretty much about a month ago, I had my cousin that works for a 4WD wrecker call me with a killer deall for a ARB front bar, its not a deluxe, but then again I dont plan on getting a winch, I just wanted a bit more protection that the factory ally bar that was supplied. Here is the bar on a smashed ex minesite 150
