    Hey Poly,

I can't fault the setup, ride is nice and travels well off-road.
if they were being replaced I might consider the Dobinson MRR Shocks and some 80 series springs, but that would be purely for extra travel. but as i have a rear locker i'm not sure i would actually get more places than I do now.

hey everyone, had a couple of recent upgrades so thought i'd post.

      Custom Steel Rear Bar.

after bashing the hell out of my rear bumper for a few years its was looking very sad, big scrapes, cracks and just not happy.
I started looking round at rear bars but wasn't really happy. they all come with swing aways (or stub axles) which makes them longer than the factory bar. now with departure angle issues as it was and not needing the swing aways I went custom instead.

I found a couple of pics of some stuff I liked and left them with it.
key points were, Improved departure angle, Highlift points, trailer plug mounted where it won't get bashed, replace factory mud flaps.

      loving how it turned out.

Made with 3mm plate for the top corners and everything else in 6mm. Its more than strong enough to have stub axles added later for swing away arms.

for those interested it was done through MJB Bodyworks on the sunshine coast. cost is $1300.

        285x70x17 Mickey Thompson MTZ P3

So after picking up the 2016 FJ Rim's I was able to sell the Stock Prado Rims, and a little while after that was able to sell the old rubber Mickey Thompson 265x70x17 AZT P3

Fitted up a set of Mickey Thompson MTZ p3's in 285x70x17. (~30mm increase in diameter)
they make the car look so much smaller and fill those guards up alot more.
I get slight rub just before full lock right (got the same on the 265's before changing wheels) and will see what the rear does this weekend.

        Before (265x70x17)

        After (285x70x17)

hello, great build. id love to hear more about you rim and tire upgrade? I'm thinking about doing the same thing! have read some people recommend replacing the UCA for the bigger tires with offset. also do they stick out side your guards at all?

Well it's been quite some time. Time for an update.

Sorry Lento92 in not getting back to you sooner, I still have standard UCA's but did have to change out the factory P30 rims to a set of 2016 FJ Cruiser Rims with P15 offset.

No i dont get anything hang outside the guards.

                So it was rebuild time.

As mine is one of the more rare 6sp Manual's finding a compatible Crown and Pinion (3.9:1) set was quite expensive, and only readily available as Toyota Genuine for $1200

So at this point I decided to go with some after market gears and do a reduction while I was at it. this would bring the Prado back closer to factory RPM while running 33" Tyres. A few times I also got frustrated with how often I would stall it trying to go slow on tricky sections of track.

this was the goodie bag I picked up.

A set of Nitro Diff gears in 4.1:1 for front and rear
2x Nitro Master Install Kits (including Solid Pinion Spacers)
and being I was already taking the front apart to fit the gears I splashed out and picked up an Air Locker for the front also.

I kept the rear locker I had but got the centre rebuilt. shimmed up the spider gears, fully stripped and rebuilt.
I also went up to 80/140 axle / gear oil.

I rewired my compressor and rear locker to operate on separate switches and found a new location for them.

Well this last weekend I managed to get away for a long weekend and check out the SSS Winch Challenge at Landcruiser Park.

great entertainment. It was also my first opportunity to give the near equipment a go. And I must say its AWESOME.

The front locker is great for really hairy situations but by far my favourite is the reduced diff gears. it lets me crawl stuff soooo slowly without risk of stalling.
Had a race against a standard 4.8ltr GU Patrol and I'm almost 1/2 the speed in 1st gear low.

That combined with the twin lockers means I can really now just putt around as slow as can be and just drive over stuff without bouncing and hitting stuff hard and fast.

very happy with how it turned out.

Well with all this wet weather SEQ has been having I found a leak in the rear cargo area.

after some poking around found my tailgate seal was pretty rooted but the main cause for the leak was the Top Break light (in the top of the door)

after having a small stroke when my local Toyota Dealer said they wanted $373.30 for the seal and $340 for the light I thought this might be a great time to try Amayama.com

                        Tailgate Rubber Part Number: 6788160131
                        Lamp Unit Rear: 8157060081

I picked up the tailgate rubber for $168.96 including freight from UAE (Arrived within 4 days)
and the lamp unit for $114.73 from Japan.

got to be happy with that

                            awesome job
just watched the diff video, ouch
what did the ring & pinion sets set you back ?
what rear locker did you have ?

                            on a better note
how is first gear now with the diff change?
i still have 265/65/17 BFG so it didn't muck up the gearing , but always wanted to fit 4.3 and go bigger tyres

                              Hi Razorback

The rear locker is an ARB RD132 air locker.

So I completely re-geared front and back rather than just replace the broken rear C&P
the twin C&P set in 4.1 with 2 of their "Master Install Kits" that include Bearings, solid pinion spacer with shims, new axle sleas and Crown gear bolts.

whole lot was just over $2000 in parts. (not including new front locker)

mine being a 6sp manual using 4.3 with 33" would be too low.
during my research I found out the diff rations can be different from auto to manual and early to late as they only had the 6sp manual and 5sp auto in later models.

I believe that 4.1 is standard for Autos.

i have seen 3.9 and 3.7 in the late 120's but in the early 120 with the 2.7L i think they had the 4.1
what speed are you doing at 2500 in 5th & 2000 in 6th?
