  • Kaymar Rear bar install ???s// Lexus GX460

I will be fitting a Kaymar rear bar and tire carrier for the Prado 150 to my Lexus GX460, and I have a few questions for those of you that are familiar with the product:

    1) Based on a few minor differences between the stock rear bumper on Prado vs. Lexus (location of bumper mounted lights/ reflectors, see attached photos), I'm slightly concerned about the cutting of the stock bumper.

AAny advice or pointers about the install from those that have experience?

    2) Since I have the Lexus, I'll be buying Prado rear mudflaps to attach to the Kayner. Toyota Dealers in South America want about $500 USD for two rear mudflaps;

Does this seem in line with AUS prices (since I'll be shipping the bumper, I might just ship mudflaps as well)

    And some background:

I have a 2010 Lexus GX460, and live in the states, but travel to South Anerica. There is essentially no "official" aftermarket support for this model, so I've been trolling Pradopoint for all of my research.

So far I've fitted a set of Prado rocker panels to replace Lexus integrated steps, then tweaked some TJM Side Protection Steps to work with the KDSS and V8. Also installed some Dobinsons Springs with Koni Raid shocks, all after much research on this forum.

Regarding the rear mudflaps, I would be buying some 6mm insertion rubber and cutting it into shape to suit. It would certainly be much cheaper than $500 and will most likely fit better.

My kaymar is ready to be picked up now, so I'll be fitting it up in a couple of weeks time (current knee injury is making it hard for me).

If you can wait that long I'll take some pics along the way and have a chat with you about my fit up.

Just for your information, kaymar have 4 different rear bars for the 150 LWB, I'm guessing you would have reverse sensors, and I would suggest getting the later rear bar and later mudflaps, the later mudflats are made of a thicker material and are longer, because of this there is a slight difference in the wing length and profile on the bar. If you are getting the twin wheel carrier, kaymar also can supply a rear number plate bracket which bolts on with the wheel, so much easyer than fabing up something yourself. I don't know if it will work because of the model difference, but you will also most likely require the reverse camera relocation kit. Neither of these two parts come with the "kit", even though I would think they should. The kit also does not come with any sort of trailer wiring, I would suggest getting the genuine trailer wiring loom for your car, that way it plugs into the factory plugs and works like it should with your computers.

Andy, I think the shipping will take at least that long so I look forward to hearing about your install. I've read the issues with the older design mudflaps, so I'll certainly be taking your suggestion regarding the "newer bar."
I only opted for a RHS Tire Carrier so I'm hoping the center mounted plate/ camera won't be totally covered, and I'll be removing a tow bar, so the Toyota wiring is already there (I'm not sure if you can get a GX460 without the bar, so resale may be tough).

Amts, I like your idea, but for the amount of $ I've spent, I'm not sure my handiwork is up to par (it's a bit costly for a hacked up looking solution). I'll keep shopping around, but I know the prices here (South America) are significantly higher for parts also available in the states, but since these parts aren't available in the states I was looking for other options.

I'll find out my price on those mud flaps too if you would like, trade customer at our local toyota dealer.

You might get away with the camera, but you will need to make up some type of offset number plate bracket I would think, just so the whole thing was visible.

I'll definatly make sure I take some pics of the cut line, template, etc. for you then

That would be great to hear what the dealership down there gets for em. I shot a message to ToyotsRus also to see if they had any from a salvaged vehicle - might get Lucky.

As far as the plate ill try to Slide it left in the stock cut out; looks like it might be enough.

Unfortunately ToyotsRUs (parts recycler in Melbourne) wanted $125 per mud flap. When I asked for more details (color and condition), they rechecked the inventory and discovered they didn't actually have any in stock.

From the "used price" it sounds like the "new" price in AUS is probably similar to what it is here in Central America ($180ish).

Wow, I guess it pays to ring around. $60ea from the dealer, new, can have them at the dealer in 2 days tops. I've got no idea though on how big of a post pack I would need to send them to you or anything like that, but surely it wouldn't be too expensive.

Wreckers really do have no idea some times

Andy - thanks for the help. I stopped by the dealer today and asked to speak with a manager in the parts department. I asked him why a part would be $60 in Australia and over $150 here (in Panama). He seemed surprised, and offered to run the part numbers again.... $73 per side.

I still had the print out of the quote I received from last week (left side around $150, and right side around $260). He told me to disregard and He ordered them at the new lower price; they should arrive tomorrow.

I'll see if I can have Kaymar throw some Roadsafe recovery points in with the bumper and I should be good for a while...

No worries, that's what it all about. Glad you came up with a good price, and the best thing is you got both for not too much more than the wrecker wanted for one!

Very nice, any plans for a front bar. Looks a little blingier than ours over here, I guess that's the Lexus luxury

I'd love a front bar, and expected to get one first, but banging up the rear bumper forced my hand. I thought about fabbing up a hidden winch mount for the front to hold me over, but I'll probably just wait a bit and ship another bumper. I've had an ARB on a previous Tacoma that I liked, but after scrolling through all the comparison threads on here, the TJM looks like a cleaner fit to me. I think I remember reading in one of your other posts you already have one.

I'd trade all of my fake plastic bling for a console fridge in a heartbeat! I'm in a borrowed Prado at the moment and I love the fridge.

Have a look at the Sahara bar from ARB and T3 from TJM if you don't need or want side wings on the bar.
