  • Just to whet your appetite, Sandy Cape - TAS

Something to think about for after the GTG15

Went for a long weekend at Sandy Cape - had a super time camping and exploring with my boy as navigator.
All up, there were around a dozen in our group, with very few getting stuck (and then only on the sand while towing campers or trailers in and out).

Looks and sounds like you had some fun.

Great to show our visitors to the GTG other parts of what the state has to offer.

Had a ball with a great group of people, best of all was Zac had a great time as well - he wanted to stay longer.
He thought the number of different animals he saw was great - a tiger snake, the seal, a devil in the camp, possums, leeches, wallaby and numerous different bird types.

Is that down the Balfour track? I recall the name from my younger days just not where it is

Cool trip & pics. Nice 120 too, was it the Nissan recovery vehicle?

The Balfour starts (or ends depending which way you are travelling) on the Sandy Cape track.

With a couple of lifted and locked 80s in the group, I didn't need to worry about being the recovery vehicle.
Truthfully, there wasn't a lot of need for recoveries in our group, although I did see some carnage from other groups down there - a Jeep that had it's front end "adjusted" as he became a buldozer and a hilux that took in a gutful of water into the D4D and had to be towed all the way out (plus other damage that occured during the tow).

Did it get water in on the long crossing over the river? Or elsewhere?
                      Did it have a snorkel?

I'm not sure of where he did it but it must have been on one of the inland river crossings, as the beach crossings were relatively tame this time. Not sure about a snorkel (Ithink I saw one on it).

Might have to get a few together for a run down there some time.
