Torque converter temp rises very quickly and is regularly over 100 degrees even with the cooler. However it does come down very quickly too. When the converter is locked the two temps are exactly the same.
I have a transmission cooler and scan Guage and the temperature has never got over 100 degrees yet, even towing

I swapped the position of the thermo switch today. The sensor block is now before the cooler. We are going on a trip up Spicers Gap. There is a long climb up Cunninghams Gap which had my atf temp hit 115 the last time I did it pre-cooler install. We are then going off road where there will hopefully be some low range hill climbs.

I haven't done my fluid flush yet. I took a photo of the fluid next to some fresh fluid. Going to book it in as soon as I can.

Post cooler towing the camper up Cunninghams Gap torque converter 95deg. Main box not over 80.

Pre cooler had the torque 115 deg and main box to 98deg.

Majority of cruising both are in the 75 - 80 deg mark.

Next job is a oil change.

Thermo fan hasn't made a huge difference to max temps. Got upto 98 degrees going up Cunninghams Gap. Converter got to 120. Thermo fan does help drop the temps quite quickly. I was back at 90 degrees within a couple of minutes of getting over the top of the range. I was doing about 70km/hr up the range.

So fan helps by a few degrees but I am thinking that it wouldn't add much more cooling over the 70km/hr air coming in the front. Fan would be best utilised in low to zero speed situations where the torque converter is working and not locked. Hot summers day in start stop traffic.

My cruising temps are generally under 70 degrees and a few km of low range 4wd never got it above 75 degrees.

Concerned your temps are still as high as 98 and 115. Next time climbing the range try manually selecting gears. Sometimes you only increase revs by a couple of hundred rpm by manually selecting down one gear, but the torque converter is not slipping as much.

I would normally switch to S mode and it does allow the gearbox to run cooler without the torque converter slipping so much. This test was done in D mode as I wanted to make sure the thermo fan would switch on.

I would say 90% of the time there would be no real advantage to having a thermo fan.

I've had a few requests to supply the brackets I used in my install.

Brackets are lasercut 2mm stainless steel. Bracket kit will include bolts and nuts. These brackets suit the Davies Craig 678 cooler. I have also provided holes for mounting the thermo fan if you want the extra protection.

Cost will be $40 which includes 2 brackets, fastners and standard postage in Australia. If there is enough interest I will post up a new thread in the For Sale section.

Me too. I guess I won't need to try and figure out how to install it this week then.

I am wondering what the temps would be without the fan mounted in front of the cooler. Looking at the pics the fan would seem to block a large portion of the cooler, impeding the airflow through a large area. It may be a case of if the fan is mounted it has to run to make up for the "shading".

I have a 678 fitted. I have been looking at it and thinking that if somehow I could block the gap at the sides between the cooler and the aircon condenser it may force extra air through the transmission cooler due to the engine fan. At present with the large gap between the transmission cooler and the aircon condenser air can slip in around the transmission cooler without going through it.

Brackets look very good, pity I have already done mine.

                      Cheers

Me too. Matching your pictures with mine I thought it would be a perfect fit, but it seems That there is a bracket (circled in red) for one of the AC pipes that would foul on Tin's bracket. Do all 120s have this AC pipe bracket to anyone knowledge?

Any way we could get a fit up for the 120s as well, Tin?
