  • UHF radio power connection ..... 150 GXL

Does anybody know a connection behind the radio/aircon control area where I can pick up a constant and non constant 12volt.

I notice there are a couple of unused connectors but I don't like tapping into unknown sources due to the vehicles electronic system

    I need a minimum of 3amp supply

The best way to connect a UHF is directly to the battery, less chance of RF interference that way.

If you need a MINIMUM of 3A (what's the maximum?), I'd agree that running a new connection to the battery is a better option (switched with the ignition or direct, but connect a fuse either way).

If you don't use your existing 12V Cig Sockets, you can tap into these. They are rated at 10A I believe. The one in the centre console is tough to get to, but the one at the back of the centre console (for use by 2nd row passengers) is very easy - the panel just pulls off. You can then connect into the back of the socket (soldering needed) and run the wires back under the centre console and up to behind the radio/aircon unit.

Adding a new 12V circuit is easy to do, particularly if you're happy to have it always powered. Happy to post some instructions if you want, but you will find others on the forums.

+1 for direct to the battery. For mine, I have it connected to the auxilliary so I can leave it on when the car is off. The unit also comes with a self timer to auto turn off if it hasn't transmitted in a length of time you specify in case you forget to turn it off.

The link in my Build Thread should give you an idea...You have to use a bit of force.
