  • Supercheap Auto 12v Travel Oven - $35

    Hi All,

The Supercheap Auto 12v Travel Oven is on clearance for $35 at the moment. From the reviews i hear it is a pretty good oven and only available at SCA during the Christmas period so once they're sold, you'll have to wait till December before it comes back.

PS. These apparently put out more heat than the Travel Buddy.

Hmmm, pulling 15 amps continuous from a cig lighter socket.
I am not sure I'd wanna be doing that.

Might be OK if you had a high current socket like a Merit or Anderson plug.

15 amps is like running your headlights on full beam, doubled, so you'd want to be unplugging it when the engine is not running.
    Cheers, Wayne

Agreed. I never like using the cig socket as its something that was never designed for use as a power supply. I have seen these melt when charging a laptop. Plugging this oven in is just asking for trouble. Considering all the other electrical standards we have, I'm surprised these connectors are still legal.

Interesting, I love my travel buddy. Hot pies in the High Country for lunch, there's nothing else that compares

How do you find the Travel Buddy. Pros and cons?
Does the lid open when rough 4wding?
What the amp draw while it is on?
          Cheers

How do I find it, in one word awesome. Fill with frozen pies in the morning 2 hours later, hot, crisp pies. The difference between the Travel Buddy and the other ovens is food stays crisp. Reports from the other ovens, SCA DSE etc. is that the food goes soggy.

The lid doesn't open when 4wding, it is a very positive closing.

Bench test shows 7A constant draw so plenty of juice from a factory socket. I just use the factory Prado socket in the rear.

The mount kit is good, I just drill a couple of screws and fit the mount on the top of my drawers when I want to use it and it doesn't move.

They are quite expensive but worth every dollar.I have the large model and it will happily cook 4 pies and 4 large sausage rolls unfrozen in about 1 1/2 hrs
and they will be nice and crisp.

                Sorry Gents,

This turned out to be rubbish. Didn't even take it home after i saw it in store. Flimsy, cheaply made and perspex from door.

When i can afford it i'll buy a Travel Buddy. For now my Dick Smith warmer is going great and very well made.

                Cheers
