  • Camper Trailers - Any owners / advice re the PATRIOT X1 ?

    Dear All,

We are heading to the Kimberleys this 'winter', and whilst we were initially travelling with just a tent (Blackwolf 2.4plus) in the back of the Prado.

In order not to court disaster, we are hurriedly looking around at the possibility of purchasing a new or possibly 2nd hand Camper Trailer. I had previously researched the Kimberley Kamper brand, but am not sure about my desire to tow a 5 meter 'comfort blanket' for the trip, and then what to do with the item when we return to a relatively small suburban back yard.

I also am aware of the possibility existence of river crossings where a longer camper trailer might hit limitations because of 'bottoming out'.

I have seen reviews, of the PATRIOT X1, and this Friday (2 days away), am taking a look at one.

I but confess that whist the "storage size" of <3.2? meters is admirable, the small footprint does seem to sacrifice space for the 'mattress, and accommodation', with access to the bed being via ladder to a 'smaller volume' roof-top tent.

Although I have yet to see it first hand to be fully spatially aware of its dimensions, and feel.

Does anyone have any experience (ownership?) of the Patriot X1, and care to comment on their opinions or that experience?

    Many Thanks

    Peter

Hi Peter, I can't comment on the Patriot but we did take a KK on a trip to the Kimberley a couple of years ago. It was really excellent and we had no problems at all. Very comfortable and no dramas on the rough stuff or in sand. However, we decided to move on from canvas and after a 2 year break from camper trailers, have just picked up a Tvan. Pretty happy so far after a couple of small trips. Still think the KK's are excellent value for money. Happy camper hunting! Cheers, Boyce

I think the patriot X1 won camper trailer of the year in its class for the last two years. Theres plenty of YouTube/ commentary / magazine articles available.

A guy I work with did a Simpson trip last year and tells me ran into the Patriot guys doing a promotional trip, video sort of thing. I doubt we will ever see anything from that trip as apparently both trailers had broken chassis when he ran into them.

        Cheers Andrew

Yep, i have an X1 and love it. High Country last year and planning OTT next year. The small footprint and low weight is what attracted me. PM me your number Peter if you would like a chat.

Hi Andrew, Its Justin here, the owner of Patriot Campers. Attached is a link to the video that was made from that trip to remove your "doubt of ever seeing anything from that trip". We crossed the Simpson on the way to the Kimberley.

                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cq90ZgUkkjE

There were 4 Campers on that trip, 2 more than the couple the guy you work with ran into and besides the one we rolled half way through the trip, the other 3 completed the 18,000km trip.

If you need any further clarification, maybe email Emma Ryan, Editor of Camper Trailer Australia Magazine who was towing one of those campers or check out issue 80 of CTA for the full coverage. Or you could try Jason Andrews from All 4 Adventure who has the trailer I was towing to enquire about the chassis condition?

Thanks for adding your story though mate, very entertaining........

                    Hey Justin,

The video link doesn't show anything from the Simpson, and starts on the Tanami Road, so how does this show anything about what went on in the Simpson???

I was interested in a Patriot, but I would like further clarification about the chassis problems??
