We got one too. It's great - because it's got a big hard body it's super quick to pack up (no stuffing sleeping bags for the kids, etc - just chuck it all on the bed, 3min packup of tent and away you go!)

For what it's worth, going over monster water bars with a standard 120 Prado (ie not lifted) the car was hitting all the time and the Tvan didn't have a problem... so back to the initial question I think it would probably be ok in the river crossings if your car is unmodified (as I think your sig says)

I inspected the X1 family camper today in Newcastle.. It's built like a tank. One look at it and you will not doubt the build strength. They use a laser cutter and so because they can, much of the trailer is crazy over engineered.

I'm a big fella, and am not sold on the foam mattress... I will need to test out for a night before forking out 35k.

If they did crack a frame then they must have rolled it and hit a rock and pulled it apart. I can't imagine it having any probs.

        Hi All,

Guys this will be my last post on this matter.

Whitey, I am usure as to why you keep on insisting I defend my products. Do you need it in another language, or maybe a signed statuatory declaration? The time you have on your hands to continually question any response to this thread is astounding and frankly disturbing, you surely must be some sort of competitor???

And AJ120, mate unless you were there to witness it, or your "friend from work" has some proof, as in pictures or specific details, id suggest that he is either mistaken, misunderstood or simply telling a good story.

My posts have been quite clear, There is nor has there ever been any issue with any chassis on any Patriot Camper, on any trip, including the one in question..

To anyone whom is sincerely interested, feel free to give me a call to discuss or to make an appointment at one of our dealers to check one out, im sure you will be impressed!

        Thanks,

        Justin

So Justin (Patriot) has quite clearly stated here in this thread that what I posted above is incorrect and there was no issue with the “CHASSIS” on their trailers. And in the strictest interpretation of what constitutes a chassis I would have to say what I posted was in fact incorrect.

However I said I would seek clarification from my work colleague as to what happened and it was in fact the “drawbar” on these trailers that were broken, whilst a good lawyer would argue the drawbar is not the chassis I think in the context of this discussion that would be splitting hairs.

Apparently the drawbars had broken and they had splinted them using high lift jacks and were in the process of removing every bit of weight they could from the trailers when he saw them.

I asked if he was sure they were patriot trailers, he was pretty sure they were and said they looked like they should be military trailers with the star on them, below is a US army logo and Patriots logo, make up your own mind if he was mistaken as to the brand.

As I originally said he thought they were doing a promo video, Justin has confirmed they were in the Simpson and were in fact doing a promo video, conveniently they started the video he posted at the start of the Tanami, which leads me to wonder why if you are crossing the Simpson making a video to promote your trailers why would you not even mention that crossing in the video? I also note that the tow vehicles of the busted trailers as described to me were not any of the tow vehicles in the video, so did the expedition start with more than 4 vehicles??????

After clarifying my information and confirming it was in fact the drawbar, I messaged Justin and asked him if he would like to clarify what happened “IN THE SIMPSON”, he neither clarified what happened in the Simpson to me and certainly didn’t address it in the thread, in fact he didn’t mention it at all after being questioned. He also posted after I questioned if there was an issue with the drawbar and he declined to answer, if it were my product and the answer was a resounding no then I would jump at the opportunity to clarify that!

I realize that this is a bit of he said she said, however I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to doubt what my workmate said was what he saw, he is a pretty switched on sort of guy in the trucking industry and knows his way around vehicles and trailers and broken equipment and I highly doubt he would mistake a flat tyre for a broken drawbar.

Everyone can draw their own conclusions

              Cheers Andrew

                Hey all,

Frankly I find the deflection and obfuscation in this thread disturbing. Personal attacks will win you no victories here. Not a competitor, not even remotely close to the camper trailer industry, just a bloke who can smell the poop in the breeze.

                So the drawbars have issues.

Some would say big deal, it's all part of the R&D testing phase in real world conditions, and I'm sure this part of the trailer has since been redesigned/beefed up etc. Some may think otherwise.

Thanks for bringing some real clarification Andrew.

This will be my last post on this thread...I hope!

Took me three nights to read that post! It qualifies as a novel, it even has suspense, a twist, accusations, innuendo, and all the other things that suck us in as an audience

                  So:
Q1. Was there any problems with the chassis? NO
Q2. Was there any issue with the drawbar or draw bars or the bit that runs from the axle to the towing point?
Q3. Is Whitey running a conspiracy to overthrow Patriot? (To be answered in cross examination, Whitey will be called to the stand)
Q4. Did MLC nearly buy a patriot? YES, they look tough!
Q5. Why did he not buy a patriot? Because they were all sold and he could not inspect one.
Q6. What did MLC buy? A T-Van, they are tough!
Q7. what is the relevance of this post? F.I.I.K.O.C. (......If I Know or Care.)
                  and finally
Q8. Whitey, who is paying you? It's Roothy isn't it!!!!! (Whitey to be called, where the hell is Whitey??????)
                  late questions
Q9: Was Justin drinking when he saw the labels, was he seeing an ex US jeep at the time and confused?
Q10. Is this really an alternative soap product, if so, does it sting if it gets in your eyes?

                  mlc - not a moderator.

Edit Oi! Whitey, whose paying you, how do we all get a slice of this action?

Hang on. Your a Queenslander. Your not douching Patriot, your ensuring the name Patriot gets some mileage on this thread aren't you. Your Mark White, I'm sure some dude from Patriot answered the phone "Hello, Mark White speaking, how may I help you?" when I called. I'm positive!. I'm bloody certain the more I con myself the more I know it to be true.

This is outrageous, your getting paid by Patriot to ensure the name Patriot gets used. Patriot should be held accountable for such actions. How much are Patriot paying you each time the name Patriot is mentioned? I for one will NOT be mentioning the name Patriot from now on! No one will be benfiting is such a low way from my actions! To be sure! Such actions are beyond pathetic and certainly not Patriotic.

(what is the relevance of the rock?)

I have no association with Patriot campers or the opposition Whitey campers
I was just reading the latest Camper Australia mag and see that they awarded the camper of year award to Patriot, for the
2nd year. The article contains a quote "the strong interlocking chassis is very advanced"
Now I realise that the mag relies on advertising dollars and advertiser would expect favourable treatment.
I have looked at these campers and was quite impressed at the quality. I also like the fact that they are an Aussie company employing Aussie workers designing their own product rather than ripping off other Aussie designs and then going O/S for manufacturing. I would hope and believe that if they had a problem then they would learn and improve the product from that experience., product development.
When I seen these campers at the Sydney 4x4 show they had a larger version trailer that can carry quad bikes and the like and those All4 adventure guys Simon and Jason were using one, and if there was going to a problem then those pair would find the weakness.
Like any story there are always 2 sides to the storey, and even when both parties think their side is factual their can be a big difference in the true facts and each party will do whatever it takes to protect their recollection of events and so integrity .
Also I note that there is competition to win a Patriot camper that I will enter , any thing for free.
