  • Help needed - wiring harness differences with 1998 5vz fe engine compared to a 2002 5vz fe

    Hi Guys

    I am needing some help with an engine swap. I have a 1998 90 series Prado with a 5vz-fe v6 engine which has blown and I just purchased a 5vz-fe engine from a 2002 95 series. The issue is that there are a number of differences with;

    1) the ECU harness connectors are different
    2) there are three connctors on the ECU with my 1998 model from the engine harness but only two on the new 2002
    3) there are vacuum lines running from the power steering pump to the inlet on the 1998 engine but no stem for it on inlet on the new 2002 engine.
    4) the 2002 engine harness appears to have different wiring connectors to the 1998 engine harness

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the differences between the 1998 and 2002 5vz fe engines and what modifications I will need to make to successfully fit this 2002 engine in place of the 1998 5vz-fe engine?

Is it just a matter of changing the ECU to fit the new engine or can I just use the 1998 enging harness and put on the 2002 engine?

You help would be greatly appreciated.

Can only use your old harness
    Airflow meter is different
Immobizer is internal on the 02s
You could make it work but too much effort
Old harness will go striaght on
Vacume line on the ps pump just leave them off

      Thanks Scott,

Sorry just need to clarify... so the old harness should just fit straight on the 02 engine and all connectors will fit straight on to everything, all except the air flow meter?

So just need to modify air flow meter conection?

      Thanks mate very much appreciated

          Yep
Your old airflow will stay with the old harness so no need for modifying there
all the plugs should be in the same spot but you may possibly come across differnt ones just change to the old s
          Sensor if that happens
