  • best after market front diff options?

    Hi guys, I trying to do some research on a good after market diff for my 150 but I can't find a lot of fair dinkum info, mostly what seems like marketing and sales pitches. If anyone out there has some good advice and info and or experience on a good aftermarket diff option that they would like to share then i would more very grateful. Cheers

    What are you looking for specifically??

    Are you looking for a bolt in replacement for the entire centre? Or would you like to replace the internals to give a diff lock? Or re gear it?

    What is the problem with the one you have now?

    Or are you looking to just go crazy and SAS the thing, if so I beleive Buds Customs would be a great place to start.

      Look at the E locker or the ARB airlocker.

        Hey andy, i just want to beef up the drive train as i do alot of remote 4wding and am not gonna rely on stock drive trains anymore lol.

        I've already made up my mind on getting the Eaton harrop elocker for the rear but am unsure about the front diff. As I and everyone else know that the rear LSD is crap but not sure how crap the front stock diff is. I want a solid front diff but not a locker. Just a solid reliable front diff to compliment the elocker for the rear.

          The front diff is not to bad. If it's reliability you want don't put extra strong cv joints in, use the original ones for a weak point. The traction control with a rear locker does work really well, almost up to a double locked.

            What Rusty said. The only time these things have diff problems is really from wear and tear (diffs do wear out), driver abuse (think rock hopping with plenty of loud peddle or flat out reverse snatch recoveries) and lack of servicing/maintenance.

            The CVs are the standard weak point, if you upgrade the CVs the diff becomes the weak point. I'm not positive, but there may be heat treated gears available, that and a good locker centre (think ARB or eaton) would be about the best you could do. I think you would have other things to worry about before the front diff, like under body protection, suspension, tyres, etc. to help bush proof it.

            What are your bad experiences with a standard drive train? Were the failures contributed to by an unknown service or use history? Most drive train failures that I see are usually created over time with multiple stresses.

              Thanks rusty, I wasn't really thinking of the weak points. Got me thinking now.

              Every 4x4 I have ever driven or owned has had stock drive ttrains and as I posted earlier that I do a lot of 4x4 in remote areas, arnhem land. I have gotten away with the stock gear for most my driving adventures but have a couple kids now, so better to be safe than sorry. I haven't really had any diff problems in the past other then my fair share of being bogged up sh!t creek without lockers and a winch. So I have learned my lesson and want to beef up the Prado. I have a 2 inch ome kit on the way and a set of 32 inch mt tires. Also a bullbar and winch (haven't decided on which winch yet).
