Can someone correct me if I'm wrong but the back doors are a single speaker that is 4ohm and the fronts are a 2 ohm 6x9 and a 2 ohm tweeter? In which case they are fairly likely to be wired in series with each other and be putting a 4 ohm load on the headunit.

Many factory units don't seem to care about a 2 ohm load though. Be aware it will change the dynamics especially between front and rear.

Hey Ranj, can you buy an adapter plate to fit a 6.5" speaker in as I have some old JBL splits that have been sitting in the box for 8 years now.
      Sorry to hijack the thread

Yes, you can get adapters to change sizes, and I am looking into that as an option now too.

RanJ, the fronts ARE 6x9, not sure of the ohm's. I assumed they'd all be 4ohm's, but apparently, I know nothing about current car stereo's.
I have not cracked the door trim to find out, Toyota are nit much help, but I did find the JBL website helpful as they offer the speaker systems in the Kakadu etc, and also the Rav4 that my wife has, so I was able to glean some info from there (All USA based data though).

If someone could confirm the ohm rating for the front and rear in the new Prado, I'd be very grateful...
I would do ti today, but I've an AMTS MKII compressor bracket to install this arvo

Hmmmm...... No I haven't even thought about a underseat sub. Against the front of the drawers/behind seats wouldn't work for us, we often take the middle row seats out too, just the two of us for now touring. Plus, in the 150 there really isn't much room there. So a under seat sub with 6.5 splits in front doors, 6.5 3 ways in rear doors? Will look into this as I was going to look for some 6x9 splits if they even exist...

Splits 6x9s do exist... but not many options and expensive for what you get.

Plenty of adapters available. Also very easy to buzz out some yourself. I typically use 6mm mdf for brackets and adaptirs.

Andy... what you just described would be the perfect system.

I've just come over to a new Prado from a VW Transporter and let me tell you, the sound system in the GXL sounds like a beast compared to a van!
Definitely want to Dynamat the inside of the doors just to eliminate those few rattles on songs with a lot of bass.
But quite happy with the stock standard unit so far.
Each to their own I guess...

I have the Kakadu with JBL speakers. Sound nice but not sure if the price difference between GXL and Kakadu justifies the price difference. In hindsight it would have been better for me to get the GXL and build the entertainment system I wanted in the Prado.

I have tried Focal and Infiniti Kappa speakers in my previous cars. I did like the Infiniti Kappa series. It just sounded better for the type of music I listen to. The Focals probably were better for rock and accoustic. Best to go into a few car audio place and bring your favourite CDs to make a decision.

I have sourced adaptors from these guys before, a lot easier the making them myself.

Regarding gxl 2017 upgrade sound without taking head unit out

I have kept the gxl headunit as the sound is good enough for me. BDL Car Stereo in Canberra did the install and were surprised how good the stock unit performed so an upgrade is unlikely.
Hi mate is that possible if u can pass me the details of those guys who upgraded your car sound system so I can get some advise and get better sound in my gxl prado 2017 too
