Old thread, but I just bought a $60 Spiral cable from a local AU ebay seller. When it arrived I couldnt find a difference to the original.. To a point the casting marks in the plastic were even the same... O.o

            Installed and works fine.

piggy, are you able to link ebay item? or pm me?

pretty certain mine needs one, airbag light is random, mostly on. i was thinking of just doing the clock spring at around $120 on ebay....

edit - just realised clockspring and spiral cable are same item..

                    Clock spring / spiral coil

Pretty well right. I'd be removing the battery for 30 mins before disconnecting bag plugs or playing with them.
Don't turn the wheel once your ready to take it off. Have it at 12 o'clock.
Make sure it's dead level. I also marked shaft and wheel with a texta to ensure it went on correct as it's a fairly fine spline.
I did the wheel nut back up before reconnecting the bag. Less fiddly and safer I feel.

An earlier poster in another thread said he had to reconnect all the steering angle sensor and then clear error codes. I'm not sure why as it doesn't need to be touched. Although it's very easy to bump the sensing disc.
The airbag plugs have a little lock tab to lift before they come off. Can be fiddly.

The new clock cable will have a lock tab that once your ready to put wheel on needs to be removed.

Tools I needed were a 19mm socket. Ratchet. #2 Philips head driver. Small flat blade.

The panels on side of wheel release from rear to front. Eg. Part closest to air bag comes out first.

Codes should clear upon reconnection of battery after 30 mins.
If not a code reader will reset them or try a longer disconnection.

It's a simple job. Don't over think it. But be safe as usual around airbags.

Thanks piggy . Sound advice. Just a sanity check. My light is intermittent. Should I be assuming the spiral cable or looking for loose connections somewhere ? Torque doesn't show any fault codes .

Cable. They come and go as the break gets moved around.

Could be your app isn't showing all fault codes?
I'd get another unit plugged in to double check it.
Not all apps show all fault codes I've discovered.

The codes for the airbag arent shown in the traditional obd2 way. You need to use techstream software to pull the info, i think its in a seperate ecu.

                            Clock spring / spiral coil

                            Some readers don't read everything.
Eg, my autogauge shows airbag but not suspension or O2 stuff.
My Snap on shows airbag and a bit more, o2 etc But not suspension.
My launch shows a shiteload. Including real time graphs etc etc.
and including the suspension codes because I've removed the tems shocks. (Which aren't cleared as without the shocks you can't).

ok, got the clock spring delivered.

going to do this on Friday.

Whats the instructions on the spring about turning 2.5 turns from left? everything in that vid and other instructions indicate just have the wheel at dead centre?
