Hey Lads,
So I've been searching the internet like crazy but I can't find a thread with a decent discussion on the merits of 235/85/16 Vs 265/75/16 MT Tyres for off road performance.
If there is such a thread, please share the link with me and apologies for starting a new thread.
I'm trying to decide which tyre size to go for on my 90 series V6 auto GLX. I would love a discussion and your opinions on the benefits/draw backs of each tyre.
Some people reckon the slimmer tyres are better in the mud because they sink down and bite into the harder stuff. Has anyone ran both sets and have an educated opinion on that theory? Also what about other surfaces and conditions, do either size have clear benefits?
Depending on tyre brand, the 235 and 265 are pretty much the same hight. Some brands (Bridgestone Deuler) have a few extra mm OD when you go with the 235.
A main concern is, are there any drawback to losing that inch of width? stability compromised? or anything else?
An obvious benefit is that the 235 are cheaper by about $150 bucks depending on brand (for 5 tyres). They also seem to have better on road fuel consumption.
From my research its clear that most people run the 265/75/16 size. Its a very common size so will be easily available out bush, this could be a big reason why people run this size?
What do you reckon guys?
