EDIT: I've figured it all out, I added the how-to in post #10. hope it helps
Hi guys,
First time poster, I bought my 07' GXL 120 D4D series a couple weeks back. Very happy with it, haven't had much time to do anything serious yet. This is the first thing I want to get out of the way.
When I bought the vehicle, it only has the 1 key with the buttons, and another key (no buttons) that for some unbeknownst reason, has a nut and bolt screwed through it. The previous owner said it was to short something out.... hmkay... (any insight on this would be handy too)
My first question is, Do I need a so-called 'master key' to program a blank key from ebay? or will my existing key be a master? i don't know what a master key is exactly, my yamaha bike has a red 'master' key.
So What I would like to do is buy another (maybe 2) button-integrated keys from ebay, or wherever is recommended (any advice here would be great too). And program them to be spares. I really dont like the idea of only having one good key.
I've seen the procedure videos and threads on here re: door opening closing, on off ignition etc etc. But do you need a special key to do this procedure in the first place? Or will my existing button-key work fine?
PS I realise I'll have to get the key cut also.
PPS A proper introduction will come soon I promise.
